Job Description
BJ's Wholesale Club is a renowned membership-only warehouse club with a strong presence powered by over 30,000 dedicated team members. The company is committed to delivering exceptional value and service to families, helping them save on the products and essentials that matter most. BJ's prides itself on a team culture built on purpose, opportunity, and meaningful impact, emphasizing growth, collaboration, and member satisfaction. As a large-scale retailer with numerous locations, BJ's Wholesale Club combines the energy of a retail store with a customer-focused approach aimed at delivering an outstanding shopping experience every day.
BJ's Wholesale Club offers comprehensive employment benefits to support the health, well-being, and future of its team members, including weekly pay, free memberships, generous paid time off, flexible and affordable health benefits, a 401(k) retirement savings plan with company match, and an employee stock purchase plan. These offerings highlight BJ's investment in its workforce and commitment to fostering an environment where employees can thrive both professionally and personally.
The Closing Manager role at BJ's Wholesale Club is a vital leadership position responsible for managing the club’s closing operations to ensure outstanding performance and member experiences. Working closely with the Club Manager and Assistant Club Managers, the Closing Manager directs the recovery and utility teams and oversees the closing processes in perishable departments such as produce, meat, bakery, deli, and dairy/freezer. This role emphasizes leadership and operational excellence by holding team members accountable to company standards and driving continuous improvement to meet and exceed club goals.
Key responsibilities involve maintaining policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with food safety and sanitation standards, coaching and developing team members, and delivering the club’s GOLD member standards for service excellence throughout the closing hours. The Closing Manager acts as the Manager on Duty as needed, providing leadership coverage and operational oversight to guarantee a seamless member experience and efficient club closure.
This role demands strong business acumen with a focus on strategic thinking and data-driven decision-making, effective communication, and building high-performing teams. The Closing Manager is expected to foster a values-based culture, promote safety and inclusion, and drive key performance indicators related to operational execution, cost discipline, and profitability. Additionally, this position requires hands-on involvement, such as actively walking the club floor during closing hours, resolving member issues, and supporting continuous process improvements.
The position requires certification in ServSafe Food Safety and, for those in Florida, a special qualifier certification for retail propane oversight. A valid forklift license with yearly certification is also mandatory. At BJ's Wholesale Club, the Closing Manager plays an essential role in delivering operational excellence, championing team success, and ensuring a welcoming, safe, and well-run environment for members and employees alike. The role offers a competitive pay range from $23.00 to $28.75 per hour, reflecting the company’s commitment to fair compensation based on experience and location.
