The Clinical Sales Specialist position for the Interventional Pain division based in the Bay Area, California, plays a critical role within Avanos Medical's sales team. This customer-facing role requires a proactive and knowledgeable individual responsible for driving clinical sales efforts by providing expert education, supporting physicians and healthcare staff during product trials, and facilitating new account implementations within healthcare settings. The Specialist is considered a technical expert and integral support to the Field Sales Team, assisting with capital sales and promoting the adoption of Avanos' products in pain management therapy. Covering key locations such as Woodland, San Francisco, San Jose, and Santa Rosa, the Clinical Sales Specialist combines technical acumen, excellent interpersonal skills, and deep product knowledge to build strong relationships with medical facility personnel, drive sales growth, and enhance clinical adoption of Avanos' innovative pain management solutions.
Key responsibilities include conducting clinical education and training, supporting product demonstrations, collaborating on strategic sales planning, and providing hands-on support in both classroom and clinical environments, including operating rooms and outpatient settings. The Specialist is also tasked with maintaining up-to-date knowledge of clinical studies, reimbursement processes, and competitive therapies in interventional pain management. This role demands frequent travel within the assigned territory and requires the ability to manage complex situations effectively, communicate clearly, and sustain long-term objectives despite challenges. Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business, marketing or related field
- Minimum two years of sales, clinical or technical experience
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Deep understanding of medical terminology and clinical practices
- Proficiency in PC based applications such as Windows, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Proven record of personal and professional growth
- Ability to travel frequently
- Ability to lead under ambiguity
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Persistence and determination to achieve goals
- Ability to lift 35 pounds
- Familiarity with pain management preferred
- Experience with sales software preferred
- Proven sales achievement in medical devices preferred
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, marketing or any related field
- Two years of sales, clinical, or technical experience
- Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills

- Solid knowledge of PC based applications including Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

- Ability to travel frequently and often

- Persistence to achieve long-term objectives in the face of obstacles
- Must be able to lift 35 pounds
- Experience working in the pain management field (preferred)
- Experience with relevant sales software (preferred)
- Strong proven medical device sales track record with documented growth and achievements (preferred)
- Demonstrated market development and growth (preferred)
Job Duties
- Be a key member of the field sales team with all clinical educational needs and training
- Provide clinical expertise and product knowledge to support the sales process, including conducting product demonstrations and in-service training
- Collaborate with the territory manager to develop and implement strategic sales plans tailored to specific markets
- Execute successful trials and implementations within health care settings
- Provide classroom style training in addition to live operating room and office customer support
- Thoroughly understand and demonstrate effective use of all approved clinical data/studies
- Maintain clinical expertise on industry practices and trends to assist customers, internal stakeholders
- Partner with customers to understand their business needs and objectives
- Practice accountability and communicate effectively
- Stay current with industry trends, competitor activities and emerging technologies
