We are currently seeking a Technologist to join our team at the UT Knoxville Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. This role is designed for professionals who thrive in a dynamic laboratory environment and are dedicated to delivering high-quality patient care through precise laboratory testing and analysis.
The Technologist position at Labcorp requires a strong command of routine and complex technical procedures, along with the capability to operate and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation efficiently. This full-time role follows a Monday to Friday schedule from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, with rotating weekend shifts, ensuring comprehensive coverage and continuous laboratory operations. A competitive $4,000 sign-on bonus is offered to external candidates.
In this role, the Technologist will play a critical part in verifying specimen acceptability, preparing and evaluating new reagents or controls, and reporting accurate test results to support clinical decision-making and patient outcomes. The position demands a high level of technical expertise, attention to detail, and adherence to safety protocols, including the correct use of personal protective equipment. The technologist must also maintain equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and adhere strictly to quality control procedures to uphold laboratory standards.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science, clinical laboratory science or medical technology
- 1 year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience OR an MLS degree
- ASCP certification
- Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
- Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science, clinical laboratory science or medical technology
- 1 year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience OR an MLS degree
- ASCP certification
- 3 months or more of clinical laboratory testing experience (preferred)
- Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
- Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Proficient with computers
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems
- High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
- Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
Job Duties
- Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
- Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
- Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
- Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving
- Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
- Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
- Perform and document preventative maintenance and quality control procedures
- Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
- Assist with processing of specimens when needed
- Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
