The Technologist role at Labcorp in Plantation, FL, offers a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about laboratory science and patient care. This position operates on a Monday to Friday schedule, from 6:30 AM to 6 PM, with rotating weekends and float responsibilities. The role is designed for professionals who thrive in fast-paced environments and are adept at performing both routine and complex technical laboratory procedures. As a Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results by managing specimen acceptability, conducting tests following standard operating procedures, and maintaining laboratory instrumentation. Your responsibilities will involve not only technical expertise but also decision-making skills related to troubleshooting and problem-solving.

This position requires a strong commitment to maintaining quality standards and adhering to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment and proper handling of specimens. The role also involves coordinating supplies, documenting maintenance activities, and assisting with specimen processing as needed. In addition to routine tasks, you will contribute to evaluating new reagents and controls, underscoring the dynamic and evolving nature of laboratory science at Labcorp.

Labcorp values individuals with a scientific background, preferably with a bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Biological Sciences, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology. Relevant clinical laboratory experience and certifications such as ASCP or AMT are highly preferred. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science, clinical laboratory science or medical technology
  • Specific state license
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
  • Pass medical surveillance testing including TB testing
  • Proof of immunity or vaccination for Hepatitis B, Varicella, and MMR
  • Annual flu vaccination

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science, clinical laboratory science or medical technology
  • ASCP or AMT certification
  • 3 months or more of clinical laboratory testing experience
  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
  • Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficient with computers
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Job Duties

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental standard operating procedures
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving
  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Perform and document preventative maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
