The Technologist role at Labcorp in Plantation, FL, offers a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about laboratory science and patient care. This position operates on a Monday to Friday schedule, from 6:30 AM to 6 PM, with rotating weekends and float responsibilities. As a Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results by managing specimen acceptability, conducting tests following standard operating procedures, and maintaining laboratory instrumentation. This position requires a strong commitment to maintaining quality standards and adhering to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment and proper handling of specimens. Labcorp values individuals with a scientific background, preferably with a bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Biological Sciences, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology. Relevant clinical laboratory experience and certifications such as ASCP or AMT are highly preferred. Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science, clinical laboratory science or medical technology
- Specific state license
- Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
- Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
- Pass medical surveillance testing including TB testing
- Proof of immunity or vaccination for Hepatitis B, Varicella, and MMR
- Annual flu vaccination
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science, clinical laboratory science or medical technology
- ASCP or AMT certification
- 3 months or more of clinical laboratory testing experience
- Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
- Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Proficient with computers
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems
- High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
- Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
Job Duties
- Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
- Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental standard operating procedures
- Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
- Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving
- Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
- Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
- Perform and document preventative maintenance and quality control procedures
- Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
- Assist with processing of specimens when needed
- Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
