Job Description
Southeastern Organ Procurement Foundation (SHSC) is a respected non-profit organization dedicated to facilitating organ and tissue donation, ultimately saving lives through transplantation. Operating with the mission to increase donation rates, SHSC collaborates closely with hospitals, healthcare professionals, and communities to maximize organ donation opportunities and ensure the highest quality care for potential donors. The foundation adheres strictly to standards set by the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) and regulatory bodies, reinforcing its commitment to ethical, professional, and transparent organ procurement processes. Located primarily in South Carolina, SHSC serves as a vital resource for healthcare providers, patients, and families during the organ donation process. The organization fosters a collaborative environment with advanced training, continual professional development, and a strong focus on donor and recipient welfare.
The role of the Clinical Donation Coordinator I (CDC I) at SHSC is a critical position responsible for responding to referrals of potential organ donors across the PeeDee region of South Carolina, which includes counties such as Chesterfield, Clarendon, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Georgetown, Horry, Lee, Marion, Marlboro, Sumter, and Williamsburg. The CDC I acts as the key clinical liaison between hospitals and the organ procurement organization, ensuring that all potential donors are medically evaluated, managed, and prepared optimally for donation. This includes traveling promptly to donor hospitals, conducting thorough physical and medical assessments, coordinating medical management and surgical recovery processes, and maintaining accurate donor documentation.
The successful candidate will utilize in-depth knowledge in critical care or emergency medical settings to work collaboratively with Administrators on Call (AOC), medical directors, hospital staff, and recovery teams to optimize donor organ viability and facilitate the donation process. The CDC I will also manage on-call responsibilities, maintain communication with coroners regarding approvals and restrictions, and perform hospital development activities aimed at increasing donation rates. This role demands strict adherence to professional standards, comprehensive documentation skills, and the ability to educate and represent SHSC to medical professionals and the public alike. The Clinical Donation Coordinator I position involves significant travel within the designated region, readiness to handle high-pressure situations sensitively and professionally, and a commitment to the mission of saving and enhancing lives through organ donation. Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC) certification is a requirement to be obtained after two years in this role, reflecting the organization's dedication to continued professional development and specialized expertise in organ procurement.
