A leading acute care hospital in Los Angeles is seeking to hire a Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist (CDIS). The Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist (CDIS) role is integral to this high-performing hospital. Reporting directly to the Director of Clinical Documentation Integrity, the CDIS will collaborate closely with multiple departments including Coding/Health Information Management (HIM), Case Management, Quality Improvement teams, and Physician Advisors. The role focuses on enhancing the accuracy and completeness of clinical documentation to better capture the severity of illness (SOI), risk of mortality (ROM), complications and comorbidities (CC/MCC), patient safety indicators (PSI), hospital-acquired conditions (HAC), and risk-adjusted outcomes for a diverse inpatient population.
Supported by experienced CDI educators, physician champions, and system analysts, the CDIS will lead concurrent record reviews, generate physician queries, and optimize documentation related to diagnosis-related groups (DRG) and hierarchical condition categories (HCC). This collaborative work involves daily interactions with a broad spectrum of healthcare providers including hospitalists, intensivists, surgeons, nurses, and allied health professionals, fostering a team-oriented environment dedicated to clinical excellence and improved patient care.

Job Requirements
- bachelor's degree in nursing, health information management, or related field
- minimum of 3 years clinical experience in acute care or hospital setting
- clinical documentation improvement certification preferred
- strong knowledge of medical terminology and coding standards
- excellent written and verbal communication skills
- ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively
- proficiency with electronic health record software
