Job Description
Tenderloin Housing Clinic (THC) is a renowned non-profit organization dedicated to providing innovative and compassionate housing and supportive services to formerly homeless adults, primarily in San Francisco's Tenderloin district. Founded with a mission to empower vulnerable populations and end homelessness, THC is deeply committed to improving the quality of life for its tenants by offering comprehensive supportive services, housing stability, and community integration. The organization operates various residential hotels that serve as transitional and permanent housing solutions designed to assist individuals facing multifaceted challenges such as mental health issues, substance use disorders, and chronic homelessness. THC's approach is rooted in its core values of respect, dignity, and customer service, ensuring each tenant receives care in an environment that fosters safety, community, and empowerment.
The role of Associate Director of Support Services Clinical is vital within THC, as it combines leadership, clinical oversight, and program administration responsibilities to support vulnerable residents effectively. This is a full-time, salaried position offering $113,964 annually and requires the candidate to work on-site, enabling daily interaction with staff and tenants to maintain high service standards. The Associate Director will oversee Support Service Managers and Case Managers within residential hotels, ensuring the provision of high-quality services aligned with THC's mission and customer service philosophy.
In this position, you will act as a strategic leader responsible for the supervision of clinical and support teams. You will manage hiring, training, and performance evaluations while fostering professional growth and ensuring compliance with all safety and policy guidelines. Regular meetings and staff development initiatives are prioritized to promote teamwork, leadership, and continual improvement. The role demands innovative thinking to implement new approaches for engaging hard-to-reach tenants while maintaining a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive practice.
Additionally, the Associate Director will enhance departmental operations by developing systems and procedures that improve service delivery and promote program development. This position requires active collaboration with other THC departments and external partners to ensure a comprehensive, seamless support network. Monitoring contract compliance, analyzing performance data, managing financial expenditures, and facilitating staff and client events are all part of the administrative duties.
Clinically, the Associate Director will provide direct supervisory support to clinical personnel, offering guidance and assessment to mitigate crises, including conducting evaluations under the 5150 criteria for involuntary detention when necessary. Serving as a liaison between Behavioral Health teams like UCSF's Roving Team and housing programs, this role ensures best practices in multi-disciplinary case management. The position also oversees internships, critical incident reviews, and staff debriefings to foster a culture of continuous learning and safety.
Successful candidates will demonstrate expert-level clinical assessment and crisis management skills, leadership strengths, and a passion for social justice and service excellence. Required qualifications include a Master’s degree in Social Work or related field, with an LCSW license and substantial experience in non-profit settings serving multi-diagnosed, low-income, and formerly homeless populations. The ideal leader is proactive, capable of handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, and skilled in cultivating trust within diverse teams and communities.
This impactful leadership role offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a respected organization dedicated to ending homelessness and improving lives through compassionate care, innovation, and community partnership. Those who thrive in dynamic, mission-driven environments and possess the necessary expertise are encouraged to apply and join Tenderloin Housing Clinic in this critical capacity.
