Job Description

California Climate Action Corps (CCAC) is a dynamic state-wide initiative designed to empower California's emerging climate and environmental leaders through meaningful, hands-on service and professional development opportunities. It operates as a workforce development program equipped to prepare its fellows for careers in the climate sector by fostering practical experience and leadership skills. With over 400 positions available across the state for the 2026-27 fellowship cycle, CCAC is uniquely positioned to make a significant impact on communities vulnerable to environmental challenges. Stockton Service Corps (SSC), a partner organization located in Stockton, California, is an integral part of this effort. Established in 2019, SSC focuses on collaborative community engagement, aiming to break down generational barriers and create pathways for youth leadership through service in focus areas such as climate action, social justice, and cradle-to-career support.

The CCAC fellowship at Stockton Service Corps is a full-time commitment spanning 11 months, requiring 1700 service hours from September 21, 2026, to August 13, 2027. This role is a hybrid position combining in-office presence three days a week with remote and community-based activities to maximize both flexibility and impact. Fellows commit to a 40-hour workweek, Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends needed for project demands. This fellowship is uniquely designed not only to engage fellows in direct climate action but also to invest significantly in their professional growth, with 170 to 340 hours dedicated to training and leadership development.

The primary role of the Climate Action Associate at Stockton Service Corps involves leading and coordinating projects that promote urban greening and climate resilience in one of California's most environmentally disadvantaged cities. Fellows mobilize community members through volunteer events, large-scale Service Days, and youth leadership programs, focusing on tree planting and native vegetation installation that have tangible climate benefits. They work closely with local organizations, including coalitions such as Transformative Climate Communities, to build a climate-resilient Stockton, connecting the community while advancing environmental justice.

This fellowship offers substantial benefits, including a stipend of $35,250 distributed evenly over the term, a $10,000 education award upon completion, and numerous opportunities for professional and personal development. Additional supports include professional development funds, healthcare coverage, food assistance via CalFresh for eligible participants, childcare assistance, and student loan forbearance during the service period. These benefits ensure that fellows can focus on their climate leadership roles without undue financial stress.

The Stockton Service Corps fellowship is not only about service; it is about fostering an inclusive, well-supported community of future climate leaders committed to creating lasting, measurable change in their neighborhoods and beyond. It offers a unique path for motivated individuals interested in climate science, environmental justice, community resilience, and public service to grow their careers, make meaningful contributions, and be part of a pioneering effort to combat climate change from the grassroots level.
