The role of Cleaning Technician at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, is vital in maintaining a clean and sanitary environment that supports patient care, visitor safety, and staff wellbeing. This full-time position operates on a Monday to Friday schedule from 11 pm to 7:30 am, including every other weekend and holiday shifts. The Cleaning Technician plays a key role in routine cleaning activities across patient rooms, operating rooms, recovery areas, public spaces, and office environments. Utilizing established procedures, equipment, and cleaning agents, the technician ensures all assigned areas are safe, hygienic, and pleasant.
Key responsibilities include using specialized equipment such as vacuums, buffs, and extractors, mixing and applying disinfectants and other cleaning products according to manufacturer guidelines, managing linen supplies to meet patient care needs, and maintaining cleanliness in storage and distribution areas. The role requires adherence to strict safety and infection control standards, proactive problem identification, timely communication with supervisors, and active participation in ongoing training programs.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Six months of previous cleaning experience preferred
- Knowledge of housekeeping cleaning practices preferred
- Basic written and verbal communication skills preferred
- Ability to follow verbal and written directives required
- Ability to exert medium physical effort up to 50 pounds
- Willingness to work night shifts including weekends and holidays
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Minimum 6 months previous cleaning experience preferred, ideally in healthcare
- Knowledge of housekeeping cleaning practices preferred
- Basic written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to follow verbal and written directions
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Job Duties
- Clean and service assigned areas using established procedures to ensure a safe and sanitary environment
- Maintain and operate cleaning equipment safely and report needed repairs
- Mix and apply chemicals and cleaning products according to manufacturer and department guidelines
- Sort and place clean linen on shelves and exchange carts
- Stock linen supplies and respond to requests for additional linens
- Perform daily cleaning of linen storage and distribution areas including dusting and mopping
- Report problems or incomplete tasks to team leader or next shift
- Complete verbal or written work assignments and submit to supervisor
- Adhere to safety and infection control guidelines
- Participate in mandatory in-services and continuing education
- Understand and operationalize mission, vision, values, and policies
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
