Job Description

The position available is that of a Facilities Housekeeper, responsible for maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in all tribal buildings and facilities. This full-time role is vital in supporting the health, safety, and well-being of all who utilize tribal properties. Duties include heavy cleaning tasks such as floor care, carpet shampooing, glass washing, rubbish removal, and more. The Facilities Housekeeper must maintain all areas including rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, stairways, cabins, and furniture with high standards of cleanliness and hygiene. Employees in this role will also be responsible for routine maintenance activities such as replenishing supplies, monitoring building security, and conducting minor repairs. Safety is paramount, and the housekeeper works diligently to uphold a hazard-free environment by adhering to safety protocols and procedures.

This position is ideal for individuals with a strong sense of service, prior experience in janitorial or housekeeping roles, and a commitment to teamwork and workplace safety. The role requires physical stamina, including the ability to lift moderate weights and perform repetitive motions. Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license are necessary for utilizing Pokagon Band vehicles as part of job duties. The work schedule is from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm. Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or ged preferred
  • experience in janitorial or housekeeping required
  • strong sense of service required
  • must have a valid driver’s license and meet insurance requirements to utilize pokagon band vehicles
  • ability to lift and or move up to 75 pounds
  • ability to stoop kneel crouch bend and crawl frequently
  • ability to use hands and fingers to operate equipment frequently

Job Duties

  • perform routine maintenance activities of all tribal facilities including rooms hallways lobbies lounges rest rooms corridors elevators stairways bathhouses cabins furniture rugs carpet window coverings counter tops etc
  • service clean and replenish bathroom supplies including sharps container supplies
  • gather and empty trash in waste disposal areas and dispose of waste from sharps container program to an approved red bag and medical waste treatment location
  • clean building floors by sweeping mopping scrubbing or vacuuming
  • strip seal finish and polish floors follow procedures for the use power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
  • dump change water and sterilize portables sinks in health services department
  • clean glass partitions and mirrors
  • clean elders housing and other tribal properties before and after resident moves
  • assist with set up of tables and facilities for miscellaneous department meetings and the set up of the community services building for events and meetings
  • maintain a safe workplace monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created
  • perform minor equipment repairs and plumbing repairs and or notify lead facilities housekeeper concerning the need for repairs
  • work collaboratively with department teams both in the housing and facilities department and other departments to ensure services are provided and the highest levels of service are maintained
