Job Description

The University of Hawai'i at Manoa, located in Honolulu, Hawaii, is a renowned public research university known for its commitment to academic excellence, diversity, and community engagement. As part of the University of Hawai'i System, the campus hosts a wide range of academic programs and services, serving thousands of students each year. The Athletics Department at the University is integral to campus life and offers various recreational and competitive sports facilities. The department is dedicated to fostering athletic excellence while providing a safe and clean environment for both athletes and spectators. The University of Hawai'i at Manoa Athletics Department is currently seeking part-time seasonal workers for Exempt Hourly Non-Civil Service positions. These roles are temporary and designed to support the department during busy event seasons, typically on an as-needed basis throughout the year. Exempt Hourly Non-Civil Service employees are not eligible for most traditional benefits such as paid holidays, leave, or night differentials, due to the temporary and contingent nature of their employment. The positions offer competitive hourly wages, with a salary of $24.02 per hour.

The role available is that of a Cleaner I, responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards across the Stan Sheriff Center and other lower campus athletic facilities following events. Reporting directly to the Stan Sheriff Center Manager or their designee and supervised by the Cleaner I Supervisor, the cleaner's tasks involve comprehensive custodial duties ensuring a safe, hygienic, and welcoming environment within the athletic venues. This position requires flexibility and availability to work during days, nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on the schedule of athletic events. A maximum of 19.75 hours per week is allowed, with employment continuation dependent on satisfactory performance, availability of funds, and program needs. Duties include trash removal, floor cleaning using mops and auto scrubbers, sweeping, vacuuming, and restroom maintenance. Cleaners will be responsible for ensuring all areas – including locker rooms, stairs, railings, and glass doors – are kept clean and safe following venue usage. They must adhere strictly to safety protocols and use personal protective equipment as needed.

The position requires physical capability to perform lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, crouching, climbing stairs, and prolonged standing or walking on hard surfaces. It also demands attention to detail, teamwork, and the ability to follow both oral and written instructions clearly. The Cleaner I plays a vital role in upholding the facility’s standards and contributing to positive experiences for athletes and visitors at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa athletic venues. This job offers a unique opportunity for individuals seeking seasonal part-time work in a dynamic environment with varied responsibilities and a strong emphasis on safety and quality service.
