The role requires zero travel beyond the assigned route and is structured around a standard cross-dock model. Drivers pick up loaded trucks from nightly deliveries at designated loading docks and subsequently return empty trucks to specific company lots after completing their daily routes.

The Delivery Driver position is critical in maintaining the smooth flow of product distribution throughout the day. Drivers operate on daily routes with frequent stops, and they must proficiently load and unload products, often manually or with a hand cart, adhering strictly to the order designated by the Transportation Department Manager. Physical stamina and attention to safety are paramount, as the role involves frequent lifting of products weighing up to 75 pounds, stacking and unstacking pallets, and navigating various physical environments like ramps and docks in all weather conditions.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • at least one year of route delivery experience or related driving experience
  • valid Commercial Driver's License - Class B minimum

Job Duties

  • Provide technical, customer relations, and personnel management for major programs and projects
  • runs routes efficiently, meeting or exceeding designated route times
  • unload product from trailer, by hand or using a hand cart, and place in designated customer storage areas
  • frequently lift, push, or move product that weighs 1-75 pounds, up to 100 pounds
  • frequently reach up to 72 inches to stack and unstack pallets and hand cart
  • constantly bend and twist while loading and unloading product, and retrieving items from trailer
  • verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures
  • contact management for authorization when discrepancies are on invoices
  • communicate all errors and returns
  • calls in when a customer does not receive their entire order (shorts)
  • handles any customer complaints professionally
  • handles company equipment properly, follow written driver safety rules, and performs a pre-trip inspection
  • perform pre-trip and post-trip responsibilities in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and Sysco policies and procedures
