The role available is an entry-level Driver Trainee position designed for individuals eager to embark on a career in the transportation and logistics sector supporting America’s food distribution system. This position operates on a Monday through Friday schedule with early morning dispatch times of 3 AM to 5 AM, offering a competitive hourly wage of $28.84. The primary responsibility of the Driver Trainee is to learn and gain practical experience in driving tractor trailers or straight trucks on various routes, including intrastate and interstate local deliveries, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes.

This training role is crucial as it hands-on prepares trainees to handle the safe delivery and unloading of food products at customer locations across different regions. Safety is a top priority, with all operations expected to be conducted in strict adherence to company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The trainee will receive comprehensive guidance through PFG's Entry Level Driver Trainee and Dock to Driver Training Programs, enabling a smooth transition from training to independent operation.

In addition to driving responsibilities, the Driver Trainee will engage with customers, vendors, and coworkers professionally to maintain the highest standards of customer service and operational efficiency. Essential duties include performing pre-trip and post-trip safety checks, inspecting tractor and trailer safety standards, following DOT regulations, and ensuring freight is adequately loaded and secured. Trainees also learn to complete all required documentation accurately, manage deliveries according to predetermined schedules, unload goods, perform damage control, and secure returns.

This role is ideal for individuals who are at least 21 years old, hold or are working toward a CDL B license, possess or can obtain a DOT Health Card, and have a clean driving record. Candidates should be physically capable of handling freight of varying weights, generally ranging between 60 and 90 pounds, and be capable of operating equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates. The position also requires passing post-offer drug tests and road tests to ensure compliance and safety standards.
