The role being offered is an entry-level Driver Trainee position focused on training individuals to safely and effectively operate tractor trailers or straight trucks along intrastate and interstate routes. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, with dispatch times predominantly between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., reflecting the essential nature of early-morning deliveries. This position is pivotal to the company’s mission of supporting America’s food distribution system by ensuring timely and accurate delivery of various food and food-related products to a wide customer base. The Driver Trainee will be heavily involved in comprehensive training programs designed to impart all necessary skills and knowledge, including participation in the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program.

During the training phase, the Driver Trainee will shadow and assist experienced drivers, follow all safety protocols mandated by the Department of Transportation (DOT), and perform routine safety inspections on equipment and freight. Responsibilities extend beyond driving to include loading and unloading goods, maintaining paperwork accuracy, managing customer interactions professionally, and upholding company policies. The role requires physical capability to handle freight weighing between 60 to 90 pounds, operate equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates, and adhere to safety standards rigorously. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • internal PFG candidates with 1 year of service in good standing
  • ability to attain CDL permit and DOT health card
  • six months experience with CDL B
  • valid CDL B license
  • minimum age of 21 years
  • compliance with state licensing and certification requirements where applicable
  • clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
  • successful completion of post offer drug test
  • successful completion of road test
  • current valid DOT health card
  • physical ability to hand-lift and operate equipment for moving product cases weighing 60 to 90 pounds

Job Duties

  • Attend and successfully complete PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program
  • ride-with and assist driver trainer in executing deliveries
  • perform all required safety checks including pre and post-trip inspections of tractor, truck, and trailer
  • follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving policies
  • inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • drive to and deliver customer orders according to predetermined schedule
  • unload products from trailer and transport items to customer storage areas
  • verify delivery with customer and obtain signatures
  • collect money where required
  • secure tractor, trailer, and freight at all times
  • unload damaged goods and customer returns, complete necessary paperwork
  • complete daily record of hours of service and enter logs per regulations
  • perform general housekeeping duties in tractor and loading dock areas
  • complete all necessary paperwork at shift end
  • perform other related duties as assigned
