The CDL-B Driver position at Performance Foodservice plays a critical role in the country's food supply chain by ensuring timely and safe delivery of food and food service products. This role is vital not only in maintaining the seamless operation of the supply chain but also in representing the company’s values and professionalism directly to customers. The drivers operate a tractor trailer or straight truck across intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight drive and drop assignments. The work schedule is primarily Monday through Friday with dispatch hours typically from 3 a.m. to 5 a.m., offering an hourly wage of $28.84.

In this role, the CDL-B Driver is responsible for conducting thorough pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections adhering strictly to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, ensuring vehicles and trailers meet company safety standards. Drivers must report any safety concerns or repair needs promptly and consistently follow DOT regulations and company safety protocols. The position requires attention to detail for load securing and accurate documentation, including verifying freight counts, completing paperwork legibly, and managing delivery documentation with customer confirmation and signatures. Drivers are expected to maintain high standards of professionalism and customer service by interacting positively with customers, resolving any delivery issues, and securing payments when necessary. They are responsible for loading returns, managing damaged goods, and completing daily logs of hours of service in compliance with federal, state, and company guidelines.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid CDL-B license
  • 6-12 months driving experience
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Meet all state licensing and or certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report for past 3 years
  • Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Attain or have valid current DOT Health Card or able to secure new DOT Health Card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and or other equipment to move and stack product cases freight of varying size and weight

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Performs all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation regulations
  • Reports all safety issues and or repairs required
  • Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Performs count check of items and checks customer invoices of loaded products
  • Completes all required paperwork accurately and legibly associated with freight
  • Moves tractor to loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed
  • Drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • Unloads products from trailer and transports items into designated customer storage areas
  • Performs damage control checks on items and contacts supervisor about removing orders per company policy
  • Verifies delivery of items with customer and obtains proper signatures
  • Collects money where required
  • Loads customer returns onto trailer and secure trailer doors
  • Ensures tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and secured
  • Unloads damaged goods and customer returns and completes necessary paperwork
  • Unloads all equipment, materials, and removes trash from trailers
  • Completes daily record of hours of service and enters log as per Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area, and keeps trailers clear and clean
  • Secures all equipment and completes all necessary paperwork at end of shift
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
