The CDL-B Driver role at Cheney Brothers offers a competitive hourly wage of $23.00, translating to an average annual salary ranging from $55,000 to $65,000. This position operates Monday through Saturday, with one day off in between, and features dispatch times between 4:00 am and 5:00 am. After an initial training period, drivers will be assigned dedicated routes to improve efficiency and service quality. This position is pivotal within the logistics and supply chain operations of the company, tasked with the safe and timely delivery of food and food-related products to customers. As front-line representatives of Cheney Brothers, CDL-B Drivers uphold the company’s reputation by building strong relationships with customers through professionalism and reliability.

In this role, drivers operate tractor trailers or straight trucks for intrastate and interstate routes, including local, shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop assignments. They ensure compliance with Department of Transportation regulations and company safety protocols, performing all required vehicle inspections and reporting any maintenance issues or safety hazards. Drivers are responsible for verifying freight counts, handling accurate paperwork related to deliveries, and servicing customer needs with a courteous and professional attitude. They also manage load security, unload delivered goods into designated storage areas, and safely handle any damaged or returned products according to company policies.

The CDL-B Driver plays a vital role in sustaining the food supply chain's integrity by ensuring products reach their destination intact and on time. This role not only demands excellent driving skills but also physical capability to lift and move product cases that can weigh anywhere from 10 to up to 90 pounds using necessary equipment like hand trucks and lift gates. Additionally, CDL-B Drivers must maintain accurate records of hours of service, adhere to all safety and driving regulations, and perform general upkeep around the vehicle and loading dock areas to ensure a clean and safe work environment. Job Requirements

  • high school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • 12+ months commercial driving experience
  • valid CDL-B license
  • must be 21+ years of age
  • meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
  • pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • pass road test
  • valid current DOT Health Card or able to secure new DOT Health Card
  • able to hand-lift and utilize equipment to move product cases ranging from 10 to 90 pounds

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • perform all required safety checks including pre and post trip inspections of tractor truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation regulations
  • inspect tractor truck and trailer to ensure they meet company safety standards and report all safety issues and repairs
  • follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies and immediately report safety hazards
  • perform count check of items and check customer invoices of loaded products
  • complete all required paperwork associated with freight accurately and legibly
  • drive to and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • unload products from the trailer and transport items into designated customer storage areas
  • perform damage control checks on items and contact supervisor about removing orders according to company policy
  • verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures
  • collect money where required
  • load customer returns onto trailer and secure trailer doors
  • ensure that tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and secured
  • unload damaged goods and customer returns and complete necessary paperwork
  • complete daily record of hours of service and enter in log according to DOT and company requirements
  • perform general housekeeping duties in tractor and loading dock area
  • secure all equipment and complete all necessary paperwork at the end of the shift
  • perform other related duties as assigned
