The Class A Shuttle / Utility Driver role based in Columbus, Ohio, is a full-time, hourly position offering an hourly wage of around $28. This safety-sensitive position entrusts the driver with the critical responsibility of safely loading, hauling, and delivering food waste on both intra- and interstate routes. Drivers operate open-top dump trailers varying from 30 to 45 feet across a regional footprint, ensuring multiple stops, typically between 15 to 25 daily, according to company routing. This role requires adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, federal, state, and local laws, and maintaining operational safety and professionalism at all times. Primary duties include performing vehicle pre- and post-trip inspections, operating manual and automatic transmission vehicles, using manual or electric pallet jacks, and utilizing pressure washers to keep client locations clean and free from debris. Drivers also handle basic repairs to equipment, maintain truck cleanliness, use electronic logging systems for DOT compliance, manage paperwork related to services and maintenance, and communicate efficiently with customers, vendors, and corporate operations teams to ensure seamless service delivery. Flexibility in scheduling, sometimes requiring up to 60 hours per week or 70 hours over eight days, and readiness to operate in interstate commerce are vital aspects of this role. Job Requirements
- Class A CDL license
- Clean motor vehicle record and pre-employment background check
- Minimum age and experience requirements (23 years with 2 years experience or 21 years with 1 year experience through school or military)
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen
- Stable employment history
- Ability to lift, pull, and push up to 70 pounds
- Ability to manage unpleasant odors from food waste and farms
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
- Ability to pull or roll up to 300 pounds when working with totes
Job Qualifications
- Class A CDL license (self-certified as a Non-Excepted Interstate driver with the state of issuance)
- Clean MVR and PSP
- At least 23 years of age with minimum 2 years full-time verifiable tractor-trailer experience or 21 years of age with 1 year tractor-trailer experience if a graduate from a truck driving school or 1 year of military experience
- Stable work history
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen
Job Duties
- Loading, hauling, and delivering food waste on intra- and interstate routes with multiple stops ranging from 15-25 per day by routing determined by the company
- Delivery equipment ranges from 30-45' open-top dump trailers (combination vehicles) across a regional footprint determined by management
- Operate manual and automatic transmission vehicles by DOT requirements as well as all local, state, and federal laws
- Operate manual or electric pallet jack as needed
- Utilize a pressure washer to rinse bins and containers and leave all client locations clean and free of debris
- Perform pre- and post-trip inspections
- Typical use of hand tools for basic repairs of company bins and equipment
