This role is for a Driver, Shuttle based in Ypsilanti, Michigan, offering competitive pay at $22.00 per hour. This is a transportation position that plays a crucial role in the business operations, focusing on the transportation of empty and full trailers between various locations. The work schedule includes a four-day work week with 10-12 hour shifts from Sunday to Thursday, starting at 9:30 pm dispatch. Drivers are home daily, ensuring a good work-life balance. The Driver, Shuttle is responsible for safely transporting empty trailers to operating company warehouse locations and subsequently delivering full trailers loaded with various products back to designated shuttle yard or domicile locations.

The position demands adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies to maintain safety and compliance. Drivers conduct pre and post-trip inspections of tractor-trailers and trailers to ensure safety standards are met and report any issues as required. They follow predetermined route schedules for timely deliveries and execute hook/unhook procedures while ensuring all equipment and freight are secured. Drivers interact professionally with customers, vendors, and coworkers, enhancing communication and service quality.

Additional responsibilities include collecting and securing damaged goods and customer returns, unloading equipment and materials, and maintaining cleanliness and organization of trailers and loading dock areas. Drivers are required to complete daily logs of hours of service in accordance with federal, state, and company regulations. Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent experience
  • 6+ months of tractor trailer driving experience
  • valid CDL Class A license
  • minimum age of 21 years
  • meet all state licensing and certification requirements
  • clean motor vehicle report for last 3 years
  • pass pre-employment drug test
  • pass road test
  • valid DOT Health Card or ability to obtain
  • able to hand-lift and handle heavy products up to 90 pounds

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience
  • 6+ months of experience driving tractor trailers
  • valid CDL Class A
  • must be 21 years of age
  • meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past 3 years
  • pass pre-employment drug test
  • pass road test
  • valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card
  • able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift
  • able to hand-lift product generally ranging from approximately 60 to 90 pounds

Job Duties

  • Perform all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations
  • report all safety issues and/or repairs required
  • follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • ensure route paperwork is with tractor trailer load and available upon dispatch
  • drive and deliver trailers according to predetermined route schedule
  • perform hook/unhook procedures per safety guidelines
  • park and store tractor trailers in designated areas
  • ensure all equipment and freight are appropriately locked and secured
  • collect and secure damaged goods and customer returns in empty trailers and complete necessary paperwork
  • unload all equipment, materials and remove trash from trailers as required
  • complete daily record of hours of service and enter in log as per Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keep trailers clear and clean as required
  • perform other related duties as assigned
