The Shuttle Driver role at Performance Foodservice is an essential position that ensures the smooth operational flow of the company’s logistics and distribution network. Shuttle Drivers are responsible for transporting empty trailers to various warehouse locations and delivering fully loaded trailers to designated domicile or shuttle yard sites. This role requires driving tandem trailers, tractor trailers, or straight trucks on both intrastate and interstate routes while adhering strictly to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies. Effective communication skills are necessary for interacting with customers, vendors, and coworkers professionally and courteously to address inquiries and support operational needs efficiently.
Beyond transportation duties, Shuttle Drivers perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections on their vehicles and trailers to maintain compliance and safety standards. They are tasked with securing loads properly, reporting any safety issues or repairs, and handling paperwork associated with routes and freight. Operating within a team-oriented department, Shuttle Drivers contribute to maintaining clean and organized equipment and workspaces while completing assigned duties as needed to optimize the company's distribution capabilities. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 12 months commercial driving experience
- Valid CDL-A license with doubles endorsement
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Meet state licensing and certification requirements where applicable
- Clean motor vehicle report for the last 3 years
- Successful completion of post offer drug test and criminal background check
- Pass a road test
- Current or ability to obtain DOT Health Card
- Ability to hand-lift and operate equipment such as two-wheeler and lift gate to move product cases and freight
- Ability to lift weights ranging from 10 to 90 pounds
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent
- 12+ months commercial driving experience
- Valid CDL-A with doubles endorsement
- Must be 21+ years of age
- Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
- Clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past 3 years
- Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
- Pass road test
- Attains or has valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card
- Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift
- Product generally ranges from between 10-35 pounds and up to between approximately 60 and 90 pounds, depending on the location
Job Duties
- Performs all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
- Reports all safety issues and/or repairs required
- Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
- Immediately reports all safety hazards
- Inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
- Ensures all required route paperwork is with tractor trailer load and available to driver upon dispatch
- Drives and delivers trailers according to predetermined route schedule
- Performs hook/unhook procedures per safety guidelines
- Parks and stores tractor trailers in designated areas
- Ensures all equipment and freight are appropriately locked and/or always secured
- Collects and secures damaged goods and customer returns in empty trailer to bring back to driver check-in at base facility and complete necessary paperwork
- Unloads all equipment, materials and remove trash from trailers as required
- Completes daily record of hours of service and enter in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
- Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keep trailers clear and clean as required
- Performs other related duties as assigned
