Job Description
Cheney Brothers is a leading foodservice distributor dedicated to providing high-quality products and exceptional customer service to a broad base of clients including restaurants, healthcare facilities, and hospitality businesses. With a workforce of over 3,000 dedicated associates, Cheney Brothers embraces a supportive and dynamic culture that fosters growth and innovation. The company prides itself on offering world-class leadership, comprehensive benefits, and continuous learning opportunities designed to help employees excel in their careers. Cheney Brothers values diversity and inclusion, ensuring an equal employment opportunity environment free from discrimination based on race, color, national origin, gender, and other protected statuses. This focus on people, culture, and excellence supports their mission to be an industry leader in food distribution.
The Shuttle Driver position at Cheney Brothers is a critical role that ensures the seamless transportation of trailers within the company’s operational network. As a Shuttle Driver, you will be entrusted with transporting empty trailers to designated warehouse locations and delivering fully loaded trailers to shuttle yard locations, adhering strictly to safety guidelines and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. This position requires driving tandem trailers, tractor trailers, or straight trucks on both intrastate and interstate routes, ensuring timely deliveries that support the efficient distribution of goods to meet customer demands.
The role offers an average annual salary ranging between $75,000 and $90,000, with the potential to earn performance-based bonuses. The work schedule is primarily Sunday through Thursday evenings, with Fridays reserved for special deliveries, with dispatch times typically between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. This shift pattern supports a work-life balance while still enabling key operational coverage during peak demand periods.
As a Shuttle Driver, you will be responsible for conducting thorough pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections on both tractor trucks and trailers to maintain safety compliance and operational reliability. You will also report any safety concerns or equipment malfunctions promptly, ensuring that all vehicles meet the stringent safety standards set by Cheney Brothers and governed by DOT regulations. Additional responsibilities include securing freight, managing route paperwork, performing hook and unhook procedures safely, and maintaining cleanliness of equipment and work areas.
Beyond the operational duties, the Shuttle Driver serves as an ambassador of Cheney Brothers by maintaining professional communication with customers, vendors, and colleagues, fostering a respectful and efficient work environment. This role offers an excellent opportunity for drivers seeking a steady schedule, competitive compensation, and employment with a company recognized for its employee-centric culture and growth potential. Cheney Brothers provides an inclusive workplace with benefits starting from day one, including health and wellness programs, stock purchase plans, 401K with employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off, all designed to support employees both professionally and personally.
Candidates for this role need to meet specific licensing and driving experience requirements, possess a clean Motor Vehicle Report, and be physically capable of managing the demands of the job, such as lifting freight of varying weights and operating equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates. This position is ideal for those who are safety-conscious, dependable, and eager to contribute to the backbone of America’s food distribution system in a meaningful and rewarding way. If you are ready to join a prestigious organization that fosters growth, rewards commitment, and promotes respect and safety, Cheney Brothers is the place for you.
