The CDL-A Driver position at Performance Foodservice offers an average yearly income of $80,000 or more, along with quarterly safety bonus opportunities. This role operates on a 5-day work week from Monday through Saturday, with no work scheduled on Sundays and some flexibility required for days off. The shifts typically run about 10 hours each, with dispatch times ranging from midnight to 5 AM. Depending on business needs, team routes and overnight layovers may occasionally be required.

The CDL-A Driver is a critical member of the company's supply chain, responsible for driving tractor trailers or straight trucks to deliver food and food-related products to customers safely and efficiently. Operating both intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and drive and drop assignments, the driver ensures timely deliveries while adhering strictly to Department of Transportation regulations. Besides driving duties, this role serves as the face of Performance Foodservice to customers, establishing and maintaining professional and positive interactions with clients, vendors, and coworkers.

The responsibilities of the CDL-A Driver encompass performing thorough safety and vehicle inspections before and after trips; following all company and DOT safety practices; verifying loads for security and accuracy; securing freight and equipment; unloading damaged goods and returns; completing accurate paperwork; maintaining compliance with recordkeeping and hours of service requirements; and upholding the highest safety standards throughout each delivery process. As part of a team, the driver may be called upon to perform additional duties as assigned, always striving to uphold company policies and standards.

Job Requirements

  • high school diploma/GED or equivalent experience
  • 12 months commercial driving experience
  • meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • must be 21 years of age
  • meet PFG motor vehicle report (MVR) requirements for past 3 years
  • pass pre-employment drug test
  • meet PFG FMCSA clearinghouse requirements
  • pass road test
  • able to secure new DOT medical card
  • able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product
  • must be able to work the assigned schedule required for the position
  • ability to read, write and communicate in English
  • English language proficiency is required

Job Duties

  • perform all required safety check including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to department of transportation (DOT) regulations
  • follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • perform count check of items and check customer invoices of products that have been loaded
  • check and complete all required paperwork associated with freight
  • ensure that tractor, trailer and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured at all times
  • unload damaged goods and customer returns and complete necessary paperwork
  • comply with daily record-keeping and hours of service requirements
  • uphold overall safety standards and follow guidelines for the proper handling of freight throughout the delivery process
  • perform other duties as assigned
  • comply with all policies and standards
