Job Description
Hawaiian Housewares, LLC, operating under the Hansen Distribution Group name, is a distinguished member of the C and S Family of Companies. Established in 1918, C and S has grown into a national leader in wholesale grocery supply and supply chain solutions, servicing a vast array of customers spanning independent supermarkets, chain stores, military bases, and institutions throughout the United States. The company proudly distributes over 100,000 different products to more than 7,500 independent supermarkets and other entities, making it a vital link in the grocery supply chain industry. Hawaiian Housewares upholds the highest standards in safety and operational efficiency, emphasizing a culture of continuous improvement and excellent service.
The role of a Professional Driver at Hawaiian Housewares is pivotal in ensuring the seamless delivery of goods across various destinations. As a Professional Driver, you will begin your career by partnering with a Professional Driver Trainer (PDT) who will guide you through the company's comprehensive training program. This orientation focuses on the "C and S Way," which highlights company values, regulatory compliance, and operational best practices. Successful completion of the new hire training program equips drivers with the knowledge and skills necessary to operate commercial motor vehicles safely and efficiently.
Once trained, the driver will be responsible for delivering products, either ambient or temperature-sensitive, to customers at multiple stops each day, typically ranging from three to ten. This requires precision in vehicle handling, time management, and customer service skills to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction. Additionally, the driver is tasked with the inspection and documentation of equipment to ensure it meets all regulatory and company standards, operating within the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations at all times.
This position operates primarily on the first shift from Monday to Friday, with some weekend work. Drivers should be prepared for travel as part of their duties. The work environment includes exposure to various warehouse conditions, from freezer temperatures as low as -20F to grocery warehouse conditions of up to 90F. Drivers must be DOT certified with a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License and pass the required physical examinations.
Starting pay for this role is competitively set at $33 per hour, complemented by a $6,000 sign-on bonus which underscores the company’s commitment to attracting top talent. Benefits commence from the first day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as a company-matched 401k plan. Employees are also eligible for a $100 allowance towards safety shoes, various employee discounts and purchasing programs, and a supportive, safety-focused workplace environment.
At Hawaiian Housewares, safety and compliance are paramount. Drivers must strictly adhere to all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR), DOT rules, and company policies to ensure their safety and that of the public. The company champions diversity and equal opportunity employment, fostering an inclusive workplace free from discrimination. This role offers a challenging yet rewarding career path for professional drivers dedicated to excellence in transportation logistics.
