Job Description
Performance Foodservice (PFG) is a leading broadline foodservice distributor with a unique and diverse customer base, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company prides itself on fostering strong relationships through its team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other industry professionals who provide expert advice to customers. This support extends beyond food delivery to helping restaurant owners improve operations, menu selections, and overall business strategies. PFG’s commitment to quality and service has made it a trusted partner in America’s food distribution network, dedicated to supporting local businesses and industries with reliable, high-quality food products.
The company offers a solid work environment characterized by safety, inclusivity, and respect. Employees receive competitive pay and comprehensive benefits starting from day one, including health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off. Growth opportunities within PFG enable employees to build fulfilling careers while contributing to essential services that support America’s food supply chain.
This entry-level Driver Trainee position at Performance Foodservice is designed for individuals looking to begin or advance their careers in driving commercial vehicles. The role primarily involves training and gaining experience to safely operate tractor trailers or straight trucks on intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries. The driver trainee will learn and apply the necessary skills for safe route completion, abiding by all company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
Key duties include participating in and successfully completing the company’s driver training programs, assisting experienced driver trainers, performing safety checks and inspections, ensuring freight security, and managing delivery logistics. Trainees are expected to develop strong communication and customer service skills by interacting professionally with customers, vendors, and coworkers, ensuring all services are provided to the highest standards.
This position requires diligence in following safety procedures, completing accurate delivery paperwork, and providing excellent service while handling food and related products. The vehicle operator will also be responsible for unloading deliveries, verifying shipments with customers, collecting payments when necessary, and maintaining cleanliness and security of their equipment.
As a Driver Trainee, candidates will undergo extensive training and hands-on experience, helping them to build capabilities needed to become a full driver within PFG’s team. The work schedule typically runs Monday through Saturday, with dispatch times usually between 10pm and 5am. The average annual salary range after training is between $85,000 and $100,000, reflecting the company’s commitment to rewarding skilled driver professionals who support America’s essential food distribution services.
