Currently, PITT OHIO is seeking a skilled Class A Linehaul Driver to join their team at the Portage, MI location. This role is a full-time position with a promise of being home daily, ensuring a healthy work-life balance for drivers. The starting compensation rate is $0.7564 per mile, with a potential increase to $0.8156 per mile after six months of employment, offering competitive pay that rewards experience and performance. The Class A Linehaul Driver role involves operating commercial vehicles primarily during overnight hours and transporting freight between terminals or relay points. The position functions Monday through Friday nights with occasional weekend duties and ensures drivers are home daily barring unforeseen circumstances such as adverse weather. A key part of this role includes occasional customer deliveries or pickups as needed. Drivers might also assist with loading or unloading freight at terminals using approved dock tools like pallet jacks or forklifts, and securing freight using strapping or other methods to ensure safe transport. Safety is paramount, so inspecting vehicles for defects, complying with all federal and state regulations, and maintaining accurate records such as driver logs are crucial responsibilities. Drivers must adhere to precise federal guidelines when transporting hazardous materials and operate within legal service hour restrictions.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Class A CDL license
  • Minimum of two years of interstate commercial driving experience
  • Clean driving record with no major violations
  • Must pass DOT physical examination
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening
  • Hazardous materials endorsement or willingness to obtain within 90 days
  • Must provide complete work history for past ten years
  • Consent to background and motor vehicle record checks
  • Ability to load/unload freight with dock tools (certification required for forklift use)
  • Must comply with federal, state, and local transportation regulations
  • Must register with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse if CDL holder
  • Must have good communication skills and a team-oriented attitude

Job Qualifications

  • Two years of verifiable interstate driving experience or one year plus a driving school diploma approved by PITT OHIO
  • Must pass PITT OHIO driving test administered by a certified trainer
  • Hazardous material and tank endorsement or ability to obtain within 90 days
  • Possess a valid driver’s license issued by the state of residence
  • No driving license suspension or revocation during the last 36 months
  • No record of serious traffic violations in the past 36 months including DUI, open container, refusal of tests, reckless driving
  • No pattern of more than three motor vehicle violations in 36 months
  • No pattern of more than three at-fault traffic accidents in 36 months
  • Pass Department of Transportation physical exam
  • Consent to pre-employment drug screening and negative prior controlled substance and alcohol tests
  • Consent to a ten-year work history check
  • Demonstrate stable work history and positive attitude
  • Agree to the use of driver-facing event recorders

Job Duties

  • Drives a commercial vehicle safely primarily in road operations during overnight hours
  • Drives terminal to terminal or terminal to relay point and returns to home terminal
  • Operates Monday through Friday nights with occasional weekend shifts
  • Makes customer deliveries or pickups occasionally
  • Assists with loading or unloading freight at terminals using dock tools
  • Secures freight properly through strapping or other approved methods
  • Inspects vehicles for defects and ensures safe operation
  • Complies with all federal regulations including hazardous materials transportation
  • Maintains accurate records such as driver logs
  • Performs all duties according to company policies and federal/state regulations
