Job Description
Performance Foodservice, commonly known as PFG, is a premier broadline food distributor servicing a diverse range of local customers. These customers include independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. PFG distinguishes itself not just through its extensive product offerings but also through the expertise and personalized service provided by its team. This team includes sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other specialists who work closely with customers to improve their operations, assist with menu development, optimize product selection, and enhance overall operational strategies. The company prides itself on enabling independent restaurant owners and food service operators to succeed and grow within their communities. At Performance Foodservice, the goal is to deliver high-quality food products efficiently while fostering strong customer relationships and support.
The role being offered is an Entry Level Driver Trainee position, aimed at individuals eager to develop their skills in the transportation and logistics sector within the food distribution industry. This role is crucial as it supports America’s food distribution system by ensuring timely and safe delivery of products essential to the daily operations of numerous food service establishments. The trainee position is designed to provide extensive, hands-on training in driving both tractor trailers and straight trucks on various routes that may include local, intrastate, interstate, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries. This is an excellent opportunity for new drivers who want to embark on a career with a reputable company that values safety, professionalism, and customer service.
The company offers competitive pay with an annual salary range of $80,000 to $100,000, reflecting the importance and responsibility of the role. The schedule typically involves a 4 to 5-day workweek, with availability required Monday through Saturday to accommodate route schedules efficiently. Employees benefit from a safe and inclusive environment that emphasizes recognition, respect, and support.
Those hired into this position will undergo comprehensive training through PFG's Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program. Trainees will receive instruction and practical experience under the guidance of experienced drivers. Key responsibilities include conducting safety checks in line with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, accurately handling and securing freight, maintaining proper documentation, and delivering products while providing excellent customer service. Drivers must comply with all DOT and company safety policies and promptly report any safety issues or concerns.
The role requires effective communication with customers, vendors, and co-workers to ensure smooth delivery operations. Practical duties include assisting with loading and unloading freight, performing damage control checks, handling customer returns, and maintaining vehicle and equipment cleanliness. Additionally, drivers are responsible for ensuring secure transport by locking trailers and securing freight properly. Maintaining daily logs and completing necessary paperwork accurately is essential for regulatory compliance and company procedures.
Performance Foodservice also provides a comprehensive benefits package, including day-one health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off, among others. This role offers significant growth opportunities within the company for individuals who demonstrate dedication, skill development, and a commitment to supporting the essential supply chain of the food service industry.
