The Driver role at Core-Mark is integral to maintaining the company's food distribution system, ensuring that food and related products are delivered efficiently and safely to customers. Drivers are eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus and can earn a guaranteed weekly pay of $1,300 plus additional bonus potential based on meeting certain criteria, leading to annual earnings of $80,000 or more. The typical shift runs Monday to Friday, with dispatch times between 3:00 am and 6:00 am.

The primary responsibility of the Driver is to operate tractor-trailers or straight trucks on various routes including intrastate, interstate, local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight drive-and-drop routes. Drivers are expected to comply with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, maintaining safety standards through pre-trip and post-trip inspections, reporting any safety hazards promptly, and completing accurate paperwork related to freight handling. Interactions with customers, vendors, and coworkers must be professional, ensuring customer satisfaction and efficient problem resolution.

Drivers also handle loading, unloading, and securing freight, managing inventory counts against customer invoices, and performing damage control checks on products. Additional duties include maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in the tractor, trailer, and loading dock areas, securing equipment at the end of shifts, and adhering to federal and state logging requirements. This role demands physical capability to handle freight weights commonly ranging from 10 to 90 pounds using equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 12 or more months of tractor/trailer driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A license
  • Minimum age of 21 years
  • Meet all state licensing and certification requirements where applicable
  • Valid current DOT Health Card or ability to obtain one
  • Ability to hand-lift and operate equipment such as two-wheeler and lift gate to move freight weighing between 10 to 90 pounds

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent
  • 12+ months tractor/trailer driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A must be 21+ years of age
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Attain or have valid current DOT Health Card or be able to secure new DOT Health Card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize equipment such as two-wheeler and lift gate to move and stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight

Job Duties

  • Perform all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
  • Inspect tractor/truck and trailer to ensure they meet company safety standards and take appropriate action as needed
  • Report all safety issues and repairs required
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Immediately report all safety hazards
  • Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Perform count check of items and check customer invoices of loaded products
  • Check and complete all required paperwork associated with freight accurately and legibly
  • Move tractor to loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed
  • Drive to and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • Unload products from trailer and transport items into designated customer storage areas
  • Perform damage control checks on items, scan, and contact supervisor about removing orders according to company policy
  • Verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures
  • Collect money where required and load customer returns onto trailer securing doors
  • Ensure tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and secured
  • Unload damaged goods and customer returns and complete necessary paperwork
  • Perform daily record of hours of service and enter log according to Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area, and keep trailers clear and clean
  • Secure equipment and complete paperwork at end of shift
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
