Job Description
Core-Mark is a leading distributor in the convenience retail industry, specializing in delivering fresh and broadline consumer goods across North America, including the U.S. and Canada. Recognized for its expansive product range, innovative programs, and comprehensive solutions, Core-Mark empowers convenience operators to optimize their retail businesses efficiently and effectively. The company is committed to fostering a positive work environment characterized by safety, inclusivity, and respect, which has helped maintain its status as the largest marketer of consumer products in its sector. With a strong dedication to employee growth, Core-Mark offers a culture of rewards and recognition, competitive pay, and extensive benefits, positioning itself as an employer of choice within the food distribution and logistics fields.
The Food and Food Service Delivery Driver role at Core-Mark is a vital position within the company’s operational framework. This role contributes directly to the national food supply chain by ensuring that customer orders are delivered safely, timely, and in excellent condition. The delivery drivers are not just responsible for the physical transportation of goods; they act as important representatives and the face of Core-Mark, building strong relationships and trust with clients through professional and courteous service. This role involves operating company vehicles in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies, performing essential safety checks before and after trips, and handling customer transactions and returns.
Drivers are expected to work a four-day week, with dispatch times ranging between 3:00 AM and 6:00 AM, earning $26 per hour. This schedule provides a balance of work and personal time, catering to employees who value a consistent routine with early start times. Core-Mark places emphasis on safety, requiring drivers to conduct thorough inspections of tractor/trucks and trailers, secure freight, check customer invoices accurately, and maintain detailed logs and records. Additionally, drivers contribute to the cleanliness and upkeep of their vehicles and loading areas, reinforcing the company’s commitment to quality and safety standards.
This role demands physical capability, including the ability to hand-lift and operate equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates to maneuver and stack product cases and freight. Products can vary significantly in weight, generally ranging from 10 to 35 pounds and sometimes up to 60 to 90 pounds depending on location. Candidates must hold a valid CDL-A, be at least 21 years of age, and possess a clean motor vehicle report over the past three years. Attention to compliance is crucial, including passing background checks, drug screenings, and holding or obtaining a current DOT Health Card.
Core-Mark supports its employees through various benefits such as health and wellness plans starting from day one, a 401K plan with employer matching, employee stock purchase plan, paid time off, and education assistance, among others. The company’s premium benefits package, along with growth opportunities, ensures that its drivers receive ongoing support and recognition in a safe and inclusive culture. Core-Mark consistently upholds equal employment opportunities, embracing diversity and fair treatment across all facets of employment, making it a responsible and attractive employer for delivery professionals seeking long-term careers in the food distribution sector.
