The Driver, CDL-A position at Core-Mark plays an essential role in supporting America's food distribution system by ensuring timely and safe delivery of food and food-related products to a variety of customers. This role involves operating tractor-trailers or straight trucks across intrastate and interstate routes including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop schedules. As a Driver, CDL-A, responsibilities include performing all necessary safety checks following Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, inspecting vehicles and trailers for safety compliance, and reporting any needed repairs or hazards promptly. Drivers must adhere strictly to DOT regulations and company guidelines for safe driving practices. This position also requires efficient handling of customer interactions by answering questions accurately and professionally, verifying delivery of orders, obtaining customer signatures, and managing payment collections where applicable.

Additional duties encompass the physical handling of freight—loading, unloading, and securing cargo—including damaged goods and customer returns. Drivers are expected to maintain accurate and legible records of deliveries, hours of service, and other required paperwork. Coordination with loading dock personnel to attach trailers, manage freight counts, and ensure secure transport is paramount for this role. The ability to use equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates to aid in the moving and stacking of freight weighing between 10 and up to 90 pounds, depending on location, is essential.

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent
  • Valid CDL-A license
  • At least 1 year of tractor/trailer driving experience
  • Minimum age of 21 years
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Possess or able to obtain a valid DOT Health Card
  • Ability to hand-lift and use equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates to handle freight
  • Ability to work safely following DOT and company regulations

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Perform all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Immediately report all safety hazards
  • Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Perform count check of items and check customer invoices of loaded products
  • Move tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed
  • Drive to and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • Unload products, transport items into designated customer storage areas
  • Perform damage control checks on items, scan, and contact supervisor for order removals
  • Verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures
  • Collect money where required
  • Load customer returns onto trailer and secure trailer doors
  • Ensure tractor, trailer, and freight are locked and secured
  • Unload damaged goods and customer returns and complete necessary paperwork
  • Complete daily record of hours of service and logs according to DOT requirements
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area, and keep trailers clear and clean
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
