Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline distributor serving a diverse range of customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company prides itself on its close relationships with customers, supported by a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts who provide advice on operations improvement, menu development, product selection, and overall operational strategies. Their commitment extends beyond delivering quality food products to also helping independent restaurant owners achieve their business dreams. Known for maintaining a safe, inclusive, and respectful work environment, Performance Foodservice offers competitive pay, robust benefits, and growth opportunities in an essential sector that supports America’s food distribution system.
The Shuttle Driver position at Performance Foodservice is a critical role focused on the efficient transport of empty trailers to Operating Company warehouse locations and delivering full trailers to domicile or shuttle yard locations. The role involves operating tandem trailers, tractor trailers, and straight trucks on both intrastate and interstate routes under strict compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The Shuttle Driver ensures safe and timely delivery while maintaining professional communication with customers, vendors, and team members. This position offers a competitive starting pay of $34.50 per hour and a schedule from Sunday through Thursday with start times between 5 PM and 7 PM. Requirements include experience with doubles trailers and a valid doubles endorsement.
Shuttle Drivers play a vital part in the company’s supply chain by contributing to the seamless flow of goods and products. They are responsible for conducting thorough safety checks, including pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment, ensuring all freight is properly loaded and secured and adhering to company safety standards. Drivers must follow all DOT regulations meticulously to prevent incidents and report hazards promptly. They perform hook/unhook procedures safely, park and store equipment properly, and ensure trailers are locked and secured at all times.
In addition to driving and delivery duties, Shuttle Drivers handle the collection and securing of damaged goods and customer returns and are expected to unload equipment, materials, and maintain cleanliness in the tractor and loading dock areas. Daily logs of hours of service must be accurately recorded to comply with federal and state regulations. The role also encourages teamwork as Drivers may be assigned other duties to best serve the company’s operational needs.
Performance Foodservice values safety, responsibility, and professionalism in all employees. They provide a supportive environment that rewards and recognizes efforts, fostering employee growth and wellness from day one with benefits such as health and wellness plans, an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off. Candidates must be 21 years or older, possess a valid CDL A with doubles endorsement, have at least 12 months of commercial driving experience, and meet state licensing and certification standards. A clean motor vehicle record, successful completion of drug screening, background checks, and road tests are mandatory. The role also requires physical capability to handle product cases weighing up to 90 pounds and use of equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates.
Joining Performance Foodservice as a Shuttle Driver means becoming an essential part of a company dedicated to excellence in food distribution and committed to equal employment opportunities, fostering diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Employees at Performance Foodservice benefit from a stable career path, comprehensive training, and a culture that emphasizes safety and community support.
