Job Description

Performance Foodservice, a broadline distributor under Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading foodservice company that works closely with an extensive range of local customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company stands out by combining the efficiency and resources of a large distributor with the personalized approach of a local partner. The dedicated team at Performance Foodservice, made up of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other industry experts, fosters enduring relationships with its customers. These relationships go beyond simple supply; the team offers valuable advice on improving operations, menu development, product selection, and strategic business growth. The overarching mission is not only to deliver quality food but to support independent restaurant owners and foodservice operators in achieving their goals and dreams.

The CDL-A Driver role at Performance Foodservice is a pivotal position within the food supply chain. Drivers fulfill a critical function by ensuring that food and food-related products are delivered safely, promptly, and in excellent condition to customers. These drivers act as vital representatives of the company, building trust and satisfaction among the customers they serve. The position offers competitive compensation with an average annual pay ranging between $85,000 and $100,000. Additionally, the company provides a sign-on bonus of up to $7,500 depending on experience, acknowledging the skill and commitment required for the role. Working hours are typically from Monday through Saturday, with dispatch times between 1 am and 6 am, reflecting the operational needs of food delivery and distribution.

The role is primarily focused on driving tractor-trailers or straight trucks within intrastate, interstate, local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight drive-and-drop routes. Adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety standards is paramount. Drivers must perform safety inspections, maintain accurate records, and operate vehicles and equipment responsibly. Beyond driving, CDL-A Drivers are responsible for delivering orders, unloading and securing freight, verifying deliveries with customers, and ensuring all paperwork is accurate and completed timely. They must also handle returns and damaged goods following company policy, demonstrating thorough attention to detail and strong customer service skills throughout their interactions.

This role not only demands technical competence in commercial driving but also requires professionalism, a strong safety mindset, and the physical ability to handle product cases ranging from 10 to 90 pounds. Candidates must possess a valid CDL-A license, a clean motor vehicle record, meet all licensing requirements, and pass necessary drug tests and background checks. Drivers are integral to maintaining the smooth operation of America’s food distribution system, making this role essential and rewarding for those dedicated to the logistics and foodservice industry. Performance Foodservice emphasizes a safe, inclusive, and respectful work environment, offering many growth opportunities, excellent benefits including health and wellness from day one, a 401K employer match, education assistance, and paid time off among others. This position represents a career with a company that values its employees and supports their productivity and development.
