This full-time position offers an average annual salary ranging from $85,000 to $100,000, with a Monday to Friday schedule, where dispatch times vary between 2 am and 6 am. The CDL-A Driver is responsible for operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, overnight, and drive and drop deliveries. This role demands strict adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations to ensure safe and timely deliveries of food and food-related products to a variety of customers.
In this role, the driver is not just a courier but also a representative of the company, tasked with building lasting relationships with customers by ensuring professionalism and reliability. Drivers perform essential safety inspections, including pre-trip and post-trip checks of their vehicles and trailers to meet company and DOT safety standards. Reporting any safety issues or necessary repairs promptly is a critical part of the job, ensuring the ongoing safety and reliability of transport operations.
The CDL-A Driver’s responsibilities include following all DOT and company safe driving policies, verifying that freight is loaded securely, and ensuring accurate completion of all required paperwork related to deliveries. This includes counting and checking items against customer invoices, securing trailers, performing damage control on goods, and obtaining customer signatures for deliveries. Drivers also handle payment collections where applicable and ensure that customer returns and damaged goods are managed according to company policies.
Additionally, drivers maintain logs of hours of service in compliance with federal, state, and company requirements, contributing to operational transparency and regulation compliance. General housekeeping to keep vehicles, loading docks, and trailers clean and clear is also part of the daily routine. The company fosters a safe, inclusive, and respectful working environment that offers competitive pay, benefits starting from day one, and opportunities for personal and professional growth. Benefits include health and wellness programs, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and more.
Performance Foodservice is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion, providing a supportive atmosphere where all employees can thrive. This role is perfect for individuals who value safety, customer service, and teamwork while contributing meaningfully to America's critical food distribution infrastructure.
