The Class A Delivery Relief Driver position at DFA offers an exceptional opportunity for experienced drivers to join a dynamic environment where support and backup driving are essential to operational success. This role is designed to cover driver absences due to vacation or other time off, providing flexibility and vital on-call relief. The position includes delivering products safely and efficiently using Class A vehicles, including straight trucks, tractor-trailers, or double trailers. Drivers are expected to have a comprehensive understanding of multiple delivery routes and maintain up-to-date route knowledge through periodic on-route ride activities.

Compensation for this role can reach up to $28.34 per hour, reflecting the skill and responsibility required. The job demands adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) and internal safety regulations, maintaining vehicle and equipment conditions, and providing exceptional customer service. Additionally, relief drivers must communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, and customers to ensure smooth delivery operations and promptly report any delays or issues. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 or more years of experience driving a tractor trailer, straight truck, or doubles trailer within the last 5 years preferred
  • must meet minimum age requirements
  • must meet DFA requirements for Motor Vehicle Records
  • must meet all DOT requirements
  • valid Class A CDL
  • some drivers may be required to have a doubles endorsement
  • license or operator's permit for at least the three years immediately prior to application
  • must be able to read, write and speak English

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 or more years of experience driving a tractor trailer, straight truck, or doubles trailer within the last 5 years preferred
  • valid Class A CDL
  • some drivers may be required to have a doubles endorsement
  • license or operator's permit for at least the three years immediately prior to application
  • knowledge of DOT procedures, rules, and requirements
  • skill in proficient computer usage
  • ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • skills with math for calculating load size and recording accurate volume/weight measurements
  • good organization and record keeping skills
  • must be able to read, write and speak English

Job Duties

  • Operate a commercial motor vehicle in compliance with DOT and DFA rules, regulations and policies adhering to all safety practices
  • deliver products or assets according to route schedule and customer delivery expectations, put deliveries inside coolers and walk-ins in a safe and timely manner
  • follow designated routes and schedules unless otherwise directed by supervisory personnel
  • report delivery delays to management due to road conditions, accidents or breakdowns
  • load and unload product as required at designated stops, may include stocking and ordering of product
  • communicate effectively and maintain good relations with customers and report any problems to the driver supervisor or manager
  • ensure and/or perform proper maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment used, and maintain a clean vehicle
  • complete all daily paperwork fully and correctly each day
  • maintain all log and trip records according to company policy and DOT guidelines
  • perform load inventory and document condition of freight before departure
  • attend all driver workshops and training sessions
  • use company supported applications or systems properly
  • represent DFA positively and professionally at all times during interactions with customers or other individuals
