Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline distributor dedicated to supporting a diverse range of local customers such as independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. Through a collaborative network of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts, Performance Foodservice builds strong, lasting relationships by offering tailored guidance on menu development, product selection, operational strategies, and overall business improvement. This establishes the company not only as a food distributor but as a trusted partner committed to helping independent restaurant owners thrive and reach their goals. Performance Foodservice prides itself on delivering high-quality food products while fostering a culture of respect, inclusion, and continuous growth for its employees.
The Entry Level Driver Trainee position at Performance Foodservice offers an excellent opportunity for motivated individuals to launch a career in the transportation and logistics industry within a reputable organization. This training role is designed for candidates seeking to gain valuable experience and skills in operating tractor trailers or straight trucks for intrastate and interstate deliveries. The program focuses on preparing trainees for local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes, emphasizing safety, customer service, and professionalism. Trainees receive competitive compensation starting at $24 per hour during training and have the potential to earn an average annual salary of $100,000 after completing the program. The role offers a stable five-day workweek with local or daily home routes, allowing for a balanced work-life schedule.
During training, participants will attend and successfully complete the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, which provides comprehensive instruction on safe driving practices, Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, vehicle inspections, and customer interaction. Trainees will ride along with experienced drivers, assist with deliveries, and gradually assume responsibilities under supervision. Key duties include conducting pre- and post-trip inspections, ensuring freight is properly loaded and secured, verifying delivery accuracy, maintaining required documentation, and performing general housekeeping tasks to uphold safety and operational standards.
Performance Foodservice fosters a safe and inclusive working environment that values rewards, recognition, and employee growth opportunities. The company offers extensive benefits from day one, including health and wellness benefits, employee stock purchase plans, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off. This role is ideal for individuals who meet licensing requirements, are physically capable of handling product cases up to approximately 60 to 90 pounds, and are interested in joining a team that is essential to the food distribution system across America. Overall, this position provides a meaningful entry into the trucking industry with a company dedicated to supporting its workforce and customer base alike.
