Job Description

Performance Foodservice (PFG) is a leading broadline foodservice distributor that partners with a diverse array of local customers such as independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company prides itself on its collaborative approach, where a team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other subject matter experts work closely with customers to offer insightful advice on improving operations, menu development, product selection, and operational strategies. This dedication to customer success extends beyond delivering quality food products — PFG is committed to supporting independent restaurant owners in realizing their entrepreneurial dreams through exceptional service and tailored solutions.

Performance Foodservice operates in a dynamic environment that values growth, safety, and inclusivity. As a distributor, PFG manages a complex food supply chain that ensures timely delivery of fresh and quality products. The company's reputation is built on reliability, an established safety culture, and a commitment to employee well-being, which is reflected in its employee-focused programs and robust benefits package.

The Driver Trainee position at PFG is an entry-level role designed for individuals eager to develop their driving skills and embark on a career in commercial truck driving. This role involves comprehensive training that prepares candidates to operate tractor trailers or straight trucks safely and efficiently within intrastate and interstate routes. Trainees will gain hands-on experience through a structured progression, including ride-alongs with experienced drivers and supervised deliveries across local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes. The focus is on cultivating safe driving practices, adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and excellent customer service.

This opportunity offers competitive training pay at $24 per hour, with potential earnings averaging $100,000 annually after completing the training phase. Trainees will work local routes with home daily, maintaining a five-day workweek, which provides a healthy work-life balance. The role also emphasizes teamwork and professionalism, requiring interaction with customers, vendors, and co-workers to ensure deliveries are executed with precision and courtesy.

Candidates will be trained in safety inspections, paperwork management, secure loading and unloading of freight, and the use of equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates. The company fosters a safe and inclusive working environment rich in rewards, recognition, and respect. Additional benefits include day-one health and wellness coverage, employee stock purchase plans, 401K employer matching programs, education assistance, paid time off, and various other employee incentives.

Overall, the Driver Trainee role at Performance Foodservice offers a career pathway in a vital industry supporting America's food distribution system. This position not only provides competitive compensation and benefits but also opens doors to continuous professional development and advancement within the company, making it an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to enter the commercial driving profession with a respected employer.
