This opportunity is for a Transportation Driver based in Indianapolis, Indiana, with a competitive annual salary range between $80,000 and $100,000. The position also includes a $10,000 sign-on bonus and monthly performance bonuses of up to $500. Drivers generally work Monday through Friday, starting at 3am with dispatch and operate local routes ensuring they return home daily. This role is essential in supporting America’s food distribution system, as drivers are responsible for delivering food and foodservice products safely and timely to customers, acting as the face of Core-Mark and fostering lasting customer relationships.

The Transportation Driver's role involves a variety of tasks that include driving tractor-trailers, completing safety inspections, managing freight, and customer service. Drivers typically offload 10,000 to 12,000 pounds of freight daily using hand trucks and dollies, ensuring products are delivered in excellent condition. Duties also include pre and post-trip inspections, adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, accurately handling paperwork, and performing basic maintenance and housekeeping tasks related to their vehicle and loading areas. Drivers must be committed to safety, professionalism, and efficiency, with responsibilities extending to the verification of deliveries, managing cash or check transactions when applicable, and handling returns and damaged goods.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent
  • Valid CDL-A
  • 6+ months commercial driving experience
  • Must be 21+ years of age
  • Meet all state licensing and or certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
  • Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Attain or have valid current DOT Health Card or able to secure new DOT Health Card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and or other equipment to move product cases or freight of varying weight

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Perform all required safety checks including pre and post trip inspections of tractor and trailer according to DOT regulations
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Perform count check of items and check customer invoices
  • Check and complete all required paperwork associated with freight
  • Move tractor to loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed
  • Drive and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • Unload products from trailer and transport items into designated customer storage areas
  • Perform damage control checks on items and contact supervisor about order removals
  • Verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures
  • Collect money where required
  • Load customer returns onto trailer and secure trailer doors
  • Ensure tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and secured
  • Unload damaged goods and customer returns and complete necessary paperwork
  • Unload equipment, materials and remove trash from trailers
  • Complete daily record of hours of service and enter log per Federal DOT requirements
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor and loading dock areas
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
