Job Description
Core-Mark is a leading distributor in the convenience retail industry, recognized as the largest and most comprehensive marketer of consumer goods in North America. The company offers a diverse range of products, programs, and solutions to convenience operators across the United States and Canada. With a strong commitment to empowering customers, employees, and communities, Core-Mark has built a reputation for reliability and excellence in the food distribution sector. The company fosters a safe and inclusive workplace culture that values rewards, recognition, and respect, making it an attractive employer for those seeking growth opportunities in an essential industry.
The position available is for a Driver - Hourly role critical to maintaining the integrity of the food supply chain. As a food and food service delivery driver, you serve as the frontline representative of Core-Mark, ensuring that vital products reach customers accurately, safely, and on time. This role is integral to supporting America’s food distribution network, providing reliable deliveries that uphold the company’s commitment to quality and customer service. The driver’s responsibilities include operating tractor-trailers on a variety of routes such as intrastate, interstate, local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight shifts.
This role offers competitive compensation, with starting wages ranging from $68,000 to $72,000 annually, inclusive of hourly base pay and overtime. The position features a unique work schedule of four consecutive workdays, Tuesday through Friday, starting early at 4 AM, which provides employees with a desirable three-day weekend each week. Drivers are home daily, promoting work-life balance and supporting a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, Core-Mark provides an annual merit increase to reward exceptional performance.
Employees enjoy comprehensive benefits from day one, including health and wellness coverage, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and generous paid time off. The company is dedicated to a culture that supports employee well-being and professional growth. As part of the team, drivers contribute not only to efficient logistics and delivery but also the positive relationships built directly with customers, who view these drivers as the face of Core-Mark.
Core-Mark drivers are responsible for performing all required safety checks, including pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and trailers to comply with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Reporting any safety or repair needs promptly ensures equipment operates safely and efficiently. Adherence to DOT rules and company driving policies is mandatory to maintain a high standard of safety on the roads.
Drivers must verify freight loading accuracy and condition by performing count checks and inspecting the load to prevent damage or loss. Handling all paperwork associated with deliveries, such as invoices and logs, accurately and legibly is essential. Deliveries are made according to predetermined schedules with attention to detail, including unloading products safely and securing trailers upon completion. Drivers engage with customers professionally, confirming orders and securing proper signatures to verify deliveries. In some cases, collecting payments is required.
The role also involves routine housekeeping within the tractor and loading dock areas to maintain cleanliness and organization. Drivers are expected to manage returns and damaged goods diligently, ensure proper documentation is completed, and lock up equipment at shift end. All these duties support Core-Mark’s commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
This full-time, hourly role does not only emphasize driving skills but also teamwork, responsibility, and professionalism. Core-Mark promotes equal employment opportunities for all applicants and employees, ensuring a diverse and inclusive environment free from discrimination.
