This particular role focuses on the CDL-A Driver position, critical to sustaining the food supply chain across the country. Food and food service delivery drivers at Performance Foodservice ensure that products reach customers punctually and in excellent condition. Serving as the face of the company, these drivers are responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with customers, thus representing the company’s values and commitment to service excellence. The CDL-A Driver handles driving tractor trailers or straight trucks both intrastate and interstate, including local, over-the-road, shuttle, and overnight routes. The position requires adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations to ensure safety and timeliness during deliveries. Drivers are expected to interact professionally with customers, vendors, and coworkers, ensuring clear communication and efficient handling of inquiries.
Working a schedule that averages 10-12 hour shifts without Sunday workdays and incorporating split days off, drivers dispatch typically between midnight and 5 AM depending on the assigned route. Job Requirements
- High school diploma/GED
- one year commercial driving experience
- valid CDL A license
- meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable)
- must be 21 years of age
- clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past 3 years
- pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
- pass road test
- valid current DOT health card and/or able to secure new DOT health card
- able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift

Job Duties
- Perform all required safety check (i.e., pre/post trip) including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
- inspect tractor/truck and trailer to ensure they meet company safety standards and take appropriate action as needed
- report all safety issues and/or repairs required
- Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
- immediately report any and all safety hazards
- Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
- perform count check of items and check customer invoices of products that have been loaded
- check and complete in an accurate and legible fashion all required paperwork associated with freight
- move tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed
- ensure that tractor, trailer and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured at all times
- unload damaged goods and customer returns and bring to the driver check-in and complete necessary paperwork and procedures at end of shift
- unload all equipment, materials and remove trash from trailers as required
- comply with daily record-keeping and hours of service requirements, adhering to DOT, state, and company policies
- uphold overall safety standards and follow guidelines for the proper handling of freight throughout the delivery process
- perform other duties as assigned
- comply with all policies and standards
