The position being offered is a Food and Food Service Delivery Driver, a vital role in America’s food supply chain. This full-time role operates primarily on a day shift basis from Monday through Saturday, offering annual compensation between $85,000 and $100,000. After thorough training, drivers are assigned dedicated routes, providing consistency and familiarity as they support food distribution efforts across various locations. Drivers at Cheney Brothers are not merely responsible for transporting goods; they act as the face of the company, building and maintaining strong relationships with customers through professional interactions and dependable service.

This position requires driving tractor trailers or straight trucks intrastate and interstate, including over-the-road, shuttle, and overnight routes. Responsibilities encompass safe and timely delivery of food and related products while adhering to stringent Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The driver ensures all safety standards are met through rigorous vehicle and freight inspections and maintains accurate documentation of deliveries and hours of service according to federal and state requirements. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED
  • 6+ months commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A license
  • Must be 21+ years of age
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past 3 years
  • Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Attains or has valid current DOT Health Card or able to secure new DOT Health Card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Minimum 6 months commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A license
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Meets state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean driving record for the past 3 years
  • Successful completion of drug test and background check
  • Ability to pass road test
  • Current or attainable DOT Health Card
  • Physical ability to lift and move product cases and freight using equipment as needed

Job Duties

  • Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner
  • Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company
  • Performs all required safety checks including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation regulations
  • Reports all safety issues and/or repairs required
  • Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Immediately reports all safety hazards and inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Performs count check of items and check customer invoices of products that have been loaded
  • Checks and completes all required paperwork associated with freight accurately and legibly
  • Moves tractor to the loading dock and attaches preloaded trailer as needed
  • Drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • Unloads products from the trailer and transports items into designated customer storage areas
  • Performs damage control checks on items, scans, and contacts supervisor about removing orders according to company policy
  • Verifies delivery of items with customer and obtains proper signatures
  • Collects money where required and loads customer returns onto trailer
  • Ensures that tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and secured
  • Unloads damaged goods and customer returns and completes necessary paperwork
  • Completes daily record of hours of service and enters in log in accordance with Federal DOT and company requirements
  • Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keeps trailers clean and clear
  • At the end of the shift secures all equipment and completes all necessary paperwork
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
