Job Description
US Foods is one of the largest food distributors in the United States, known for its extensive selection of food products and commitment to supporting the foodservice industry. The company prides itself on a culture that values its employees, offering opportunities for career growth and ongoing training in job skills and leadership development. With a strong focus on internal promotion, US Foods fosters an environment where employees are encouraged to develop professionally and advance within the company. The organization emphasizes respect and recognition for their workforce, underlining their motto, 'YOU Matter,' which reflects their dedication to rewarding hard work and commitment.
US Foods is currently hiring Delivery Drivers to join their transportation team. This role is essential to the success of the company as Delivery Drivers serve as a critical face of the US Foods brand customer service experience. Drivers are responsible for delivering a variety of products, including meats, produce, frozen goods, groceries, dry goods, equipment, and supplies, to customers' drop-off locations. The position offers competitive compensation starting at a base rate of $28.98 per hour, which corresponds to 70 percent of the union rate, with the rate increasing to $32.20 per hour, or 100 percent of the union rate, after completing and passing a 90-day probation period. Overtime pay is also provided based on hours worked beyond the standard schedule.
This role operates primarily with local routes, allowing drivers to be home every night. The typical work schedule is Monday through Saturday, starting early in the morning and continuing until the daily route is complete. US Foods supports its Delivery Drivers with paid training, a pension plan, paid overtime, and recognition programs to reward service and dedication. Leadership within US Foods is described as excellent, providing support and guidance to all team members.
Benefits for this role are comprehensive, including health insurance options such as medical, dental, and vision coverage. Retirement benefits are extended through a pension plan and an employee stock purchase plan (ESPP). Additional offerings include paid parental leave, life insurance, and both short-term and long-term disability coverage. These benefits reflect the company’s commitment to the well-being and security of its employees.
Key responsibilities of the Delivery Driver position include delivering orders punctually to meet scheduled delivery times while maintaining productivity, unloading products safely using hand trucks, and handling frequent heavy lifting up to 80 pounds. Drivers must be prepared to make multiple stops within a shift, deliver in various weather conditions, verify deliveries with customers, and collect payment when necessary. Strong customer service skills are essential to provide the best-in-class delivery experience that US Foods strives to maintain.
Applicants must meet several requirements, including being at least 21 years old and possessing a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the necessary endorsements and Department of Transportation (DOT) qualifications. A high school diploma or GED is preferred. Applicants must also have a valid U.S. driver’s license and a clean driving record with no serious violations. Previous commercial driving experience is required, specifically a minimum of six months in any industry or three months in food and beverage delivery. Candidates must be able to pass a DOT physical examination.
Joining the US Foods transportation team offers a stable and rewarding career path with competitive wages, excellent benefits, and opportunities for advancement. The company values integrity, reliability, and a customer-focused mindset, making it an ideal choice for skilled drivers dedicated to excellence in delivery services.
