Job Description
Core-Mark, a Performance Food Group Company, is a leading distributor in the convenience retail industry, renowned for its broad-line solutions that encompass fresh and diverse product offerings. As part of a Fortune 150 company generating over $23 billion in revenue, Core-Mark's commitment to excellence is rooted in empowering its customers, employees, and communities. With a widespread distribution network across the United States and Canada, Core-Mark ensures that retailers have timely access to the products they need to serve their customers effectively. The company fosters an inclusive and equitable work environment, adhering to all federal, state, and local employment laws, thereby supporting diversity and equal opportunity for all applicants and employees. This commitment is reflected in its comprehensive policies on equal employment opportunity, pay transparency, and a respectful workplace culture.
The position of Driver, Hourly CDL-A, is a critical role within Core-Mark’s logistics and transportation team. This union-represented role is governed by a collective bargaining agreement and offers comprehensive health and welfare benefits through the Teamsters Managed Health Care Trust. Eligible employees receive medical, prescription, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage, with additional pension benefits available through the Teamsters Pension Plan. The position operates on a Monday through Friday schedule, with dispatch times typically between 4:00 AM and 6:00 AM. During training, drivers earn $29.00 per hour, transitioning thereafter to a pay structure based on every stop, load, and mile driven, ensuring competitive and performance-based compensation.
In this role, drivers are responsible for safely operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on a variety of routes including intrastate, interstate, local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes. Drivers play an essential part in the food supply chain, ensuring the timely and secure delivery of food and food-related products that directly support convenience stores and retail customers. Beyond the mechanical duties, drivers are the face of Core-Mark to customers; they build and maintain strong professional relationships by delivering exceptional service and communication. The job demands strict adherence to Department of Transportation regulations, company safety policies, and efficient route management to guarantee deliveries meet customer expectations.
Key aspects of the role include performing pre and post-trip safety inspections of vehicles and trailers, securing freight correctly, accurately managing delivery paperwork, and conducting damage control when necessary. Drivers load and unload products, handle customer returns, and maintain cleanliness and organization within their vehicle and loading areas. Compliance with federal DOT hours of service regulations and proper record-keeping is mandatory. The role also involves assisting with general housekeeping tasks and supporting team efforts to optimize service delivery. These responsibilities make the Driver role both challenging and rewarding, offering opportunities for professional growth within a respected industry leader.
