The CDL-A Driver position at Performance Foodservice is an essential role designed for individuals passionate about supporting America’s food distribution system through reliable and timely delivery services. This position involves operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on a variety of routes including local intrastate, interstate, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop routes. The driver ensures that food and food-related products are delivered safely, securely, and punctually in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The role goes beyond merely transporting goods; it embodies the company’s commitment to customer satisfaction by establishing lasting relationships and acting as the frontline representative of the company to its customers. This role offers competitive compensation ranging between $75,000 and $100,000 annually with uncapped pay potential, supplemented by quarterly safety bonuses and unlimited referral bonuses of $2,500 per referral. Drivers receive an approximate per diem of $145 for overnight work, and a $5,000 sign-on bonus is available for those with over one year of CDL Class A experience. The work schedule is flexible, offering a 4- or 5-day workweek with up to two overnight trips per week. Newly issued equipment supports the driver’s daily operational needs, ensuring safety and efficiency.

Primary responsibilities include conducting thorough safety inspections of vehicles and trailers, ensuring freight is properly loaded, secured, and accurately documented. Drivers must strictly adhere to DOT regulations and company safety guidelines, report any hazards or issues promptly, and complete all required paperwork meticulously. Handling unloading of damaged goods and returns at the end of shifts is also part of the job, along with maintaining cleanliness and order within the trailer. Additionally, drivers comply with hours-of-service and daily record-keeping obligations while exemplifying best safety practices throughout the delivery process. The position requires physical stamina to handle lifting and moving freight of varying sizes, typically ranging from 60 to 90 pounds, using equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates.
