Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline food distributor serving a diverse range of customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. With a dedicated team consisting of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other specialists, Performance Foodservice is committed to not only delivering high-quality food products but also providing valuable operational support to its clients. This includes guidance on menu development, product selection, and overall business strategies to help independent restaurant owners thrive in a competitive market. The company is widely recognized for its inclusive culture that emphasizes rewards, recognition, respect, and a safe working environment for all employees.
The CDL-A Driver position at Performance Foodservice is a critical role within the company's supply chain operations. Drivers are responsible for transporting food and food-related products safely and efficiently across intrastate and interstate routes. These routes may include local deliveries, over-the-road (OTR) assignments, shuttle services, overnight trips, and drive-and-drop runs. The role involves operating tractor trailers or straight trucks in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies. Drivers not only ensure that products arrive in excellent condition and on time but also act as the face of the company by building strong relationships with customers through professional and courteous interaction.
This position offers competitive pay ranging from $75,000 to $100,000 or more annually, with uncapped earning potential including quarterly safety bonuses and unlimited referral bonuses of $2,500 per referral. Drivers enjoy flexible scheduling options with a 4- or 5-day workweek and additional days available, including up to two nights out per week compensated with approximately $145 for per diem and overnight expenses. New equipment and a $5,000 sign-on bonus for experienced drivers with at least one year of CDL-A experience add to the attractiveness of this role.
Drivers are expected to perform critical safety checks such as pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and trailers, verify freight loading and securing, complete accurate paperwork, and communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and co-workers. Safety is a paramount concern with strict adherence to DOT guidelines and company policies, requiring drivers to report any hazards and maintain proper records of hours of service and delivery operations. The role also includes unloading damaged goods and returns, maintaining cleanliness by removing trash from trailers, and supporting the overall team effort within the department.
Performance Foodservice prides itself on its commitment to equal employment opportunity, fostering a workplace that values diversity and inclusion. Candidates are expected to meet rigorous safety standards, have the necessary commercial driver's license, and be physically capable of handling freight that may weigh between 60 to 90 pounds. English language proficiency and a valid DOT medical card are required, along with the ability to pass pre-employment drug tests and road tests. This role offers excellent opportunities for growth within a company dedicated to supporting America’s food distribution system in a professional and rewarding work environment.
