The Route Driver position at Core-Mark plays a critical role in the company’s supply chain operations. This role involves driving tractor-trailers or straight trucks within intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop routes. The primary responsibility of the Route Driver is to ensure the safe and timely delivery of food and food-related products to a variety of customers, meeting high standards of service and compliance. Beyond driving, the Route Driver supports the business by performing essential tasks such as conducting mandatory safety inspections pre and post-trip according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, unloading products, verifying deliveries, and maintaining accurate records and paperwork. The role requires a professional approach in communicating and interacting with customers, vendors, and colleagues, providing timely and accurate information to foster a seamless delivery experience.

This position is scheduled Monday through Friday, with shifts starting as early as 3:00 AM, and offers weekly competitive pay of $1,500 for five days of work. The Route Driver is expected to function as a vital team member within the department, actively contributing to the operational goals of Core-Mark by adhering to safety guidelines, maintaining equipment cleanliness, and promptly addressing any issues related to delivery or freight safety. Job Requirements

  • Valid Class A commercial driver’s license
  • Minimum 1 year of tractor/trailer driving experience
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Current or able to obtain DOT Health Card
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including hand-lifting and equipment operation
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday starting at 3:00 AM
  • Compliance with DOT safety regulations and company policies

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • 1+ year tractor/trailer commercial driving experience
  • Must have a valid Class A license and be 21+ years of age
  • Attains or has valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment
  • Product generally ranges from between 10-35 pounds and up to approximately 60-90 pounds depending on location

Job Duties

  • Perform all required safety checks including pre and post-trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations
  • Inspect tractor/truck and trailer to ensure they meet company safety standards and take appropriate action as needed
  • Report all safety issues and repairs required
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Immediately report all safety hazards
  • Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Perform count check of items and check customer invoices of products that have been loaded
  • Check and complete in an accurate and legible fashion all required paperwork associated with freight
  • Move tractor to the loading dock and attach the preloaded trailer as needed
  • Drive to and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • Unload products from the trailer and transport items into designated customer storage areas
  • Perform damage control checks on items, scan, and contact supervisor about removing orders according to company policy
  • Verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures
  • Collect money (cash or checks) where required
  • Load customer returns onto trailer and secure trailer doors
  • Ensure that tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and/or always secured
  • Unload damaged goods and customer returns and bring to the driver check-in and complete necessary paperwork
  • Unload all equipment, materials and remove trash from trailers as required
  • Complete daily record of hours of service and enter in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area, and keep trailers clear and clean as required
  • At the end of the shift secure all equipment and complete all necessary paperwork
