The role of a US Foods driver based in Salem, MO, offers a unique opportunity to become an essential part of this leading foodservice company. This full-time position typically involves working Monday through Saturday with shifts scheduled from 3 AM to 6 AM or 6 PM to 8 PM, averaging 10 to 12 hours per day. Drivers must be flexible to accommodate some travel and overnight stays at other company locations, with hotel accommodations and per diem expenses covered by the company. The starting wage for this position is $34.06 per hour, supplemented by potential overtime pay and incentives based on mileage, stops, and cases delivered.
The core responsibilities include safely driving delivery trucks to customers while adhering to scheduled delivery times, carefully unloading products using equipment such as two-wheelers and pallet jacks, and placing products in designated storage areas. Drivers are tasked with verifying delivery accuracy with customers and securing the necessary signatures, handling collections and payments when applicable, and delivering excellent customer service to enhance client satisfaction. Additionally, drivers must perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections to ensure the safety and functionality of their vehicles.
Physically, the job requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull products weighing between 20 to over 80 pounds repeatedly during each shift. Drivers will frequently operate under varying weather conditions and must be able to handle frequent stops, often exceeding ten per shift. This physically demanding role also requires clear communication skills in English, the ability to read and understand traffic signs, respond to official inquiries, and accurately record information on delivery documents.
To qualify for the role, candidates must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License issued in their state of residence, complete with the necessary endorsements and DOT qualifications. They must be registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse, a secure online database that tracks drug and alcohol violations for CDL holders. Candidates should have a minimum of six months of commercial driving experience in any industry or at least three months of experience in food or beverage delivery. Preference is given to drivers comfortable operating manual transmission vehicles, although this may depend on the location.
