Job Description
Core-Mark, a Performance Food Group Company, stands as a prominent leader within the convenience retail industry, offering fresh and broad-line solutions through its extensive network of distribution centers across the United States and Canada. As a Fortune 150 company, Core-Mark has built an impressive reputation around empowering its customers, employees, and communities, driving more than $23 billion in annual revenue. This strong foundation and continuous growth reflect the company's commitment to excellence, innovation, and reliable service within the foodservice distribution sector.
This union-represented position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement, offering eligible employees access to comprehensive health and welfare benefits provided through the Teamsters Managed Health Care Trust. These benefits may include medical, prescription, dental, vision, and life insurance, along with pension benefits through the Teamsters Pension Plan. Employer contributions toward the pension plan are made in line with the established agreement. Additionally, employees possessing qualifying medical coverage have the option to participate in an annuity plan instead of health coverage, ensuring flexible benefit options tailored to individual needs. All wages, benefits, and eligibility requirements adhere strictly to the terms outlined in the collective bargaining agreement and Trust Fund rules.
The role of Driver, Hourly CDL-A, is pivotal in Core-Mark's operations, primarily responsible for the safe and timely delivery of food and food-related products. Drivers operate tractor trailers or straight trucks on a variety of routes including intrastate, interstate local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight drive and drop routes. Starting with a training pay rate of $29.00 per hour, the compensation model subsequently shifts to payment based on every stop, load, and mile—highlighting the company's commitment to rewarding efficiency and productivity.
Drivers in this role are more than mere transporters; they are the face of Core-Mark to the customers, building strong, lasting relationships through professional interaction and dependable service. This includes clear communication with customers, vendors, and coworkers, ensuring questions and concerns are addressed promptly and accurately. The position also demands strict adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety protocols, emphasizing safety as a core value in daily operations.
Key responsibilities include performing mandatory safety inspections of vehicles and trailers before and after trips, addressing any safety issues promptly, and properly securing and verifying freight loadings. Drivers conduct detailed counts and checks of the items delivered, complete all relevant paperwork accurately, and manage cash or check collections where applicable. They engage in damage control, scanning, and reporting damaged or removed orders according to company policies, ensuring the highest standards of service quality.
The role also involves general maintenance and housekeeping of the tractor, loading dock, and trailers, securing all equipment and completing all necessary documentation at the end of each shift. Drivers may also be tasked with loading customer returns and handling damaged goods in alignment with company procedures. This full scope of duties illustrates the multifaceted nature of the position requiring physical stamina, attention to detail, and a customer-focused mindset.
Given these extensive responsibilities, Core-Mark seeks candidates who possess a valid CDL-A license, are at least 21 years old, and have more than 12 months of foodservice or beverage route delivery experience with a Class A vehicle. Candidates must meet all state licensing and certification requirements, maintain a clean motor vehicle record for the past three years, and successfully pass drug tests, criminal background checks, and road tests. Additionally, candidates must have or be able to secure a current DOT Health Card and be capable of handling physical tasks involving lifting and equipment operation, moving product cases ranging generally from 10 to 35 pounds and up to about 60 to 90 pounds depending on the location.
Core-Mark is committed to equal employment opportunity (EEO), welcoming applicants and employees without discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, marital status, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristics. The company values diversity and inclusion as fundamental to its corporate culture and operational success.
