The role of the CDL-A Food and Food Service Delivery Driver at Core-Mark is vital within the food supply chain, ensuring that food and related products are transported safely and efficiently to customers. This union-represented position, governed by a collective bargaining agreement, offers employees comprehensive benefits including medical, prescription, dental, vision, and life insurance through the Teamsters Managed Health Care Trust. The driver’s primary responsibilities include operating tractor trailers or straight trucks across intrastate, interstate, local, over-the-road, shuttle, and overnight routes, ensuring timely delivery while maintaining strict compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The driver is not only responsible for the physical transport of goods but also serves as a frontline representative of Core-Mark, fostering strong relationships with customers through professional communication and reliable service.

The position requires meticulous attention to safety, with duties including pre- and post-trip safety inspections, verification of loaded freight, proper paperwork handling, and secure transport conditions. Beyond driving, the role entails loading, unloading, verifying deliveries, collecting payments where applicable, and maintaining cleanliness and organization of equipment and trailers.

Core-Mark offers a competitive starting wage of $29.00 per hour during training, transitioning to a payment structure based on stops, loads, and miles driven. Dispatch times are scheduled Monday through Friday, with start times between 4:00 AM and 6:00 AM. This role is ideal for individuals aged 21 and over who possess a valid CDL-A license, extensive foodservice delivery experience in a Class A vehicle, and the physical capacity to handle freight of various sizes and weights. Candidates must be able to pass stringent background checks, including drug tests and motor vehicle record reviews, as well as have or be able to obtain a valid DOT Health Card.

Job Requirements

  • must be 21 or older
  • valid CDL-A license
  • minimum 12 months foodservice or beverage route delivery experience in a Class A vehicle
  • meet all state licensing and certification requirements where applicable
  • clean motor vehicle record for past 3 years
  • pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • pass road test
  • valid current DOT Health Card or ability to secure new one
  • able to hand-lift weights generally ranging from 10-35 pounds and up to 60-90 pounds depending on location
  • willing to work Monday through Friday with dispatch times between 4:00 AM and 6:00 AM

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • perform all required safety checks including pre and post trip inspections of tractor truck and trailer according to DOT regulations
  • inspect tractor truck and trailer to ensure they meet company safety standards and report all safety issues or repairs required
  • follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • perform count check of items and verify customer invoices of loaded products
  • check and complete all required paperwork associated with freight in an accurate and legible fashion
  • drive to and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • unload products from the trailer and transport items to designated customer storage areas
  • perform damage control checks on items, scan and notify supervisor about order removals according to company policy
  • verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures
  • collect payments where required
  • load customer returns on trailer and secure trailer doors
  • unload damaged goods and customer returns and complete necessary paperwork
  • complete daily record of hours of service and enter log according to federal DOT, state and company requirements
  • perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keep trailers clear and clean as required
  • secure all equipment and complete paperwork at end of shift
