Job Requirements
- Must have a valid Class A commercial driver’s license
- minimum one to two years of relevant driving experience
- must pass background checks and Department of Transportation physical
- must pass drug and alcohol screening
- must be able to perform physical tasks associated with freight handling
- no serious traffic violations or license suspensions in recent history
- must comply with federal and state transportation regulations
- must be able to maintain accurate records
- willingness to work in a team environment
- ability to operate tractor-trailer safely under variable conditions
Job Qualifications
- Two years of verifiable interstate driving experience or one year plus a diploma from an accredited driving school approved by PITT OHIO
- pass a PITT OHIO driving test administered by an approved trainer
- possess or obtain Haz-Mat and Tanker endorsement within 90 days unless operating sprinter truck
- hold one valid driver’s license from state of residence
- no suspension or revocation of driver’s license for over 30 days within 36 months
- no serious traffic violation citations or convictions within 60 months
- no pattern of more than three motor vehicle violations within 36 months
- no more than one at-fault accident and two violations within 36 months
- pass Department of Transportation physical examination
- consent to pre-employment drug screening with negative results
- no evidence of controlled substance use in past three years according to prior employers
- consent to ten-year work history check with explanations for any gaps
- ability to read, write English and perform basic math
- consent to driver-facing event recorders use
Job Duties
- Drive a commercial vehicle safely while picking up and delivering general freight
- load and unload trailer, either individually or with assistance of dockworkers using mechanical freight handling equipment when appropriate
- perform frequent lifting, pulling, pushing and carrying of freight
- secure freight by strapping or other methods as required
- inspect vehicle for defects and safe operating conditions as required by law and company policy
- comply with all federal requirements regarding the transportation of hazardous materials
- drive tractor/trailer in all conditions in accordance with federal regulations including hours of service limitations
- maintain records required for compliance with state and federal regulations, including driver’s logs
- perform all duties in accordance with company policies and comply with all federal, state and local regulations for safe commercial vehicle operation
