Job Description
Universal Intermodal is a leading logistics and transportation company specializing in intermodal drayage services across major U.S. ports, rail ramps, and domestic destinations. Operating through 40 terminals and eight container yards, the company offers comprehensive services including chassis, containers, drayage, and freight handling for imports, exports, and domestic moves. Known for its commitment to reliability and excellence, Universal Intermodal plays a critical role in the supply chain by providing seamless door-to-door solutions for customers nationwide.
We are currently seeking skilled and motivated Owner/Operator Truck Drivers to join our team at our terminal in the Kansas City, MO area. This opportunity is perfect for experienced operators who own a reliable, DOT-compliant tractor and are looking for consistent local freight work with competitive pay. The position is contract-based with an attractive pay range of $3,000 to $3,500 per week. Our drivers are essential to ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of freight, maintaining our high standards of safety, punctuality, and customer service.
As a Truck Driver partnering with Universal Intermodal, you will be responsible for operating commercial trucks to transport freight between ports, rail yards, and customer facilities. This role requires careful route planning, adherence to delivery schedules, and secure cargo handling. Drivers must perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, maintain accurate delivery and vehicle logs, and comply with all DOT regulations and company safety policies. Strong communication skills are necessary to coordinate effectively with dispatchers and clients, ensuring transparency and timely updates throughout each delivery.
We support our Owner/Operators with numerous benefits designed to enhance productivity and reduce downtime. This includes access to company-owned chassis, a 24-hour road service department, onsite fueling options, and participation in the U-SAV discount program offering savings on fuel, hotels, cell phones, and more. Additional perks include competitive pay with up to 68% of each load, secure and free parking onsite, and the advantage of being home every night with local freight runs. Our commitment to our drivers extends beyond just competitive compensation by fostering a supportive and efficient operating environment.
This role demands professionalism and a self-driven attitude, where the driver is accountable for vehicle maintenance and cleanliness as well as delivering exceptional customer service during every interaction. The ideal candidate should possess a clean driving record, have knowledge of FMCSA and DOT regulations, and the ability to independently manage time and responsibilities. Prior experience on dedicated local routes and familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs) are considered a plus, enhancing operational efficiency and compliance.
If you are an Owner/Operator in the Kansas City region seeking dependable work with a reputable intermodal transportation provider, this position offers a fantastic opportunity to grow your business with the support of Universal Intermodal. Join us and be part of a dynamic team committed to quality, safety, and customer satisfaction in every mile driven.
