Job Description
Performance Food Group (PFG) is a leading foodservice distributor committed to delivering high-quality food products to businesses across America. With a robust network and a dedication to customer satisfaction, PFG plays a vital role in supporting the food distribution industry, ensuring that restaurants, cafes, and culinary establishments receive fresh and reliable supplies. The company values its employees, offering competitive pay and comprehensive benefits from day one, including health and wellness benefits, employee stock purchase plans, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and much more. The work culture is centered around safety, inclusivity, recognition, and respect, providing a motivating and supportive environment where employees can thrive and grow professionally. PFG offers growth opportunities for individuals committed to performing essential work within the food supply chain.
This particular role is for a Food and Food Service Delivery Driver at PFG, an integral position that directly impacts the efficiency and reliability of the nation’s food distribution system. Delivery drivers at PFG are responsible for transporting food and food-related products via tractor-trailers or straight trucks across intrastate and interstate routes, including local deliveries, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight assignments. The position offers competitive compensation, with drivers earning up to $75,000 annually based on miles driven, stops made, and unloading activity. Typical shifts start early in the morning between 4:00 AM and 6:00 AM, reflecting the essential early delivery demands of the food industry.
In this role, drivers are not only responsible for ensuring that deliveries arrive on time and in good condition but also for maintaining a professional and customer-friendly demeanor as the face of the company. This includes building strong, lasting relationships with customers and collaborating effectively with colleagues and vendors. Key responsibilities include performing mandatory safety inspections compliant with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, ensuring that cargo is loaded correctly and securely, adhering to all safety and driving protocols, and completing accurate documentation. The driver is also tasked with physically unloading products, managing customer returns, and handling payments when required.
PFG prioritizes safety and operational excellence in this role, requiring thorough inspections before and after trips, proper loading and securing of freight, and strict adherence to federal and state regulations. Drivers must conduct damage assessments, communicate effectively with supervisors regarding any irregularities, and maintain cleanliness in their equipment and loading areas. The role also demands physical stamina, including the ability to hand-lift and use equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates to move freight that can range from 10 to over 90 pounds. Overall, the Food and Food Service Delivery Driver position at PFG offers a dynamic and rewarding career path for dedicated professionals passionate about logistics, customer service, and contributing to America's food supply chain.
