Recognized as one of the industry leaders, Old Dominion has built its reputation through a company culture that values its people and embraces a family spirit. This culture fosters an open environment that encourages work-life balance and supports a dynamic team atmosphere. With over 260 service centers nationwide, Old Dominion continues to pursue innovation and operational excellence to exceed customer expectations and maintain its standing as a top choice for freight transportation services. The company is dedicated to empowering its employees and providing them with opportunities for growth and professional development, highlighted by its promote-from-within philosophy and extensive training programs. This makes Old Dominion more than just a workplace; it’s a family where employees’ contributions are valued and celebrated.
The Combination Driver/Dockworker role at Old Dominion is a critical position that combines freight handling and transportation duties to ensure the efficient and safe delivery of goods. This role is ideal for individuals who are detail-oriented, hardworking, and committed to safety and customer service excellence. As a Combination Driver/Dockworker, the selected candidate will support the company’s logistics operations by loading and unloading freight using motorized forklifts, pallet jacks, or manual methods in accordance with federal and state Department of Transportation regulations. They will also be responsible for safely operating tractor-trailer combinations to deliver freight between company service centers and customer locations within the designated geographic area. The role demands flexibility as shifts may include third shift, evenings, weekends, and some holidays to meet business needs and customer schedules.
Successful individuals thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and are skilled in using dock yard management systems and completing various shipping forms. Physical stamina is essential for handling freight that ranges significantly in weight, often pushing, pulling, lifting, and moving goods safely and efficiently. The job requires adherence to safety protocols and the ability to operate vehicle control systems skillfully, including manual transmissions and forklift machinery. Candidates must also meet stringent federal medical and licensing standards, including a valid CDL-A license with hazardous materials and twin/triple trailer endorsements, a clean motor vehicle record, and clearance of drug and alcohol tests.
Old Dominion offers a supportive and inclusive work environment that accommodates employees' needs, including individuals with disabilities, and exposes workers to varied conditions ranging from different weather environments to noise levels commonplace in freight handling and transportation. The comprehensive compensation package includes a competitive hourly wage ranging from $20.15 to $38.95, depending on location, experience, and qualifications.
This opportunity at Old Dominion is not only a job but also a pathway to a rewarding career with national growth potential, excellent benefits, and a sincere commitment to valuing every employee as a vital member of the family. If you are looking for a role that challenges you, offers growth opportunities, and values your dedication to service and safety, this could be the perfect fit.
